Your rifle is definitely a post Remington take over rifle. Anything built prior to them closing the Marlin plant is stamped North Haven, CT. Have a nice W myself that I picked up new in 09; serial starts with 92 if that helps. :)

That little gem is known as the Marlin bullseye, and a lot of folks tend to mount their sling swivels right in the middle of them. Nice rifle BTW.:)

I put a Supercell pad on my 870 a few years ago and love it. Really takes the bite out 3" slugs; had no issues even when shooting from a bench.Only problem I had were the screw holes were a good 1/4" off. Had a bear of a time trying to put it on.

30-30 is easy to reload,can be loaded from a .310 round ball over Unique, (Hornady makes a great little round ball for this;excellent for rabbit/squirrel hunting without destroying a lot of meat) up to the 190gr Hawk. I'm currently loading up a 'yote load with the Sierra 110gr Varmiter. So yes...

The North Haven plant was closed & the experienced guys that built them were given their walking papers. Production then moved to Illion NY.They haven't been built right since.

The old 16 hasn't totally disappeared. There are still a few manufacturers making them. Off the top of my head, Browning still offers a BPS pump, and Ithaca is offering a 16 GA pump as well. And there are a few others making double guns as well. But Virginian did hit it with the reasoning behind...
