Thanks for the replies guys. I took the advice. I ran across a marlin 30-30 336w they had in stock. I talked the manager into letting me have it for 10% off. So I ended up with it for $268.00 out the door. Not bad, I left outta there feeling pretty good about the whole thing. Thanks again guys.:)

Went to my local wallyworld today. I'm always looking for the clearance tags in the sporting goods dept. Well today They had a Model 710 .243 for $210. Hmmmm, I said to myself. I know most say "no", but for $210 I think it could be a deal.

With all due respect Mr. Williams, 30-30 is a great caliber and yes I am still considering a marlin336. I'm still not convinced on its stopping power on a 400 lbs bear. I would rather be the one hunting than being hunted. For the price of a 336 and the ammo, without a doubt it is a great value.
