It's the factory brake that was put on these rifles during the Klintoon AWB. I got this rifle in early 2004 before the AWB expired.
It lowers recoil, but the blast is more. One of these days I'm going to get it cut off and a regular flash hider installed.
Back to the original question...
Why not just get the 308 and use premium bullets. You can buy a lot of bullets and do a lot of practice for the price you'll pay for a second upper. Also, it an elk showed up at 350 yards, you'd be able to take the shot with the 308 with no problem.
I hunt with mine and enjoy shooting targets way out there. :D
It shoots 165 grain Hornady SST's over a good dose of H4895 like this...
That's 5 shots. This range only goes to 100 yards.
Other than the scope, mine is just like it came out of the box.
That's been my experience too.
The only time I ordered from Graf's, I called them. They added an exrta few bucks charge for taking the order over the phone, then the order was wrong when it arrived.
A local shop has s 22" Remington R15 for $1099 + tax (8%). I need a 20" upper (the R15 is 22" which is OK) and was looking at the Bushie Predator upper ($775). The predator would be on backorder for no telling how long, I can pick this one up any time, plus it has the factory camo.

So much for a good deal...
I looked at it, and the "complete toolheads" were empty toolheads with the caliber conversion kits only. Basically the press, 3 empty toolheads and 3 caliber conversions, no dies.
Oh well, I probably didn't need it anyway.
A friend is wanting to sell his 550. I own a 650 for my high volume handgun ammo and 1050 set up for 223, but have never seen or used a 550. I have about 8 toolheads set up for the 650. Do the powder measures interchange between the 550 and 650?? He says that he has a 550 that is about 6...
My son and I have both hunted with 25/06 rifles for about 10 years. The only load we use is 56.0 gr REL22 under a 100 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. It runs just over 3300 fps and has accounted for many north Arkansas whitetails. I had better luck with REL22 over IMR4350.
