Shot real Black powder for first time, I'm unimpressed

last time I purchased Black Powder was at Bass Pro. Before that I purchase 5 lbs. from a explosive dealer and had it shipped to my house. In no longer remember the explosive dealer name but I do remember they were in Sacramento CA.

If I understand your description of the gun it uses the short 16ga shells 2 9/16 inch. I have a Browning A5 that shoots this shell. I had a hard time finding any shell that fit the gun. Good news is that there is short non toxic 16 ga shells made in England. The other option is to have the...

    Side lock and pellets

I shoot an old .50 cal TC Hawken side lock and have the notion to shoot some of the new fangled pellets. I was wondering if I put a priming charge of say 10 gr of ffg to get things going if that would work? The reason I ask as I have never seen the pellets used in an old side lock. Joe

    Burned patches

So what is the big deal if the gun shoots straight who cares if the patch is burned a little or is on fire (range officers don't like burning patches, with due cause.) You might try a little thicker patch or a little bigger ball.

Can too loose of a grip cause misfires?

Any miss fires with factory ammo? If not your reloads are bum.

    What is an Acceptable Weld?

Get a 16" barrel and shoot that until you get your paper work then put the original barrel back on. Don't even give the cops a reason to have a look. if you do weld then you use a lath to take the welded part off not a torch.

    30-06 vs 6.5x55 versatility

I disagree about making 6.5x55 form .30-06 brass. It can be done but the results is not right. If you really want I will post the numbers to prove it.

    30-06 vs 6.5x55 versatility

I shoot and reload for both the 6.5 Swede and the 30-06. Franky I can't tell the difference from the recoil point of view between them. One thing it is somewhat difficult to come by correct 6.5X55 brass. The Swede is a lilttle bigger than the standard Mauser case by a few 1/1000's of an inch...
