Firing a DA revolver in SA mode

Very similar to the El Presidente drill, except you start facing away from the targets. My best El Prez time with a revolver (a 686 on steel) was 6.33 seconds with a 2.75 second reload.

Firing a DA revolver in SA mode

I get it, but if cocking the hammer on a revolver is habit, and you're looking for a SD gun, I'd consider a DAO revolver or even a striker-fired semi-auto. I'm no SD expert, but it's held that in a stressful situation, you'll do whatever is habit, and cocking a revolver hammer in a stressful SD...

66-2, 686 (no dash) or 686 SSR Pro

If the 686 SSR is from S&W's Performance Center lineup, I'm actually surprised it's not more expensive than the 66 and 686. All 3 are fine revolvers and ought to serve you well if in good condition (how long are the barrels on the 66 and 686?), but IMO, from a "value" perspective, the SSR would...

Firing a DA revolver in SA mode

The DA trigger can be reasonably accurate as well, but, as mentioned, it takes more to master. 15 yards, double action:

Firing a DA revolver in SA mode

IME, I'd say most folks cock the hammer when shooting a DA/SA revolver. Because of it's longer and stiffer trigger pull, mastering the DA trigger takes more practice. The quality of the factory DA trigger often could use improvement to boot.

    Trigger Job on Minty 19-3

I'd agree on all points. If the buyer were interested because it's minty and will be bought to just be part of a collection, I doubt the buyer would care about a bad trigger. I don't see an action job helping its value to a collector, though, and, as mentioned, unless the work is verifiably done...

Looking for 3 position small bore

Does it have to be Smallbore? CMP Rimfire Sporter matches (3P without the fancy equipment) are held in Stafford, VA. https://ct.thecmp.org/app/v1/index.php?do=match&task=edit&match=25730

My Newest Rifle, CZ 457 Varmint 22lr

We could probably start a new thread on this topic alone. Lots of rimfire folks like to tinker, modify, and/or shoot itty bitty groups - either for fun, bragging rights, or in competition. Factory barrels can be hit or miss, but there are a number of match-grade aftermarket alternatives, and a...

My Newest Rifle, CZ 457 Varmint 22lr

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I seriously doubt one would ever shoot a barrel out - at least with most rimfire ammo. These aren’t like CF rifles with a big powder charge pushing a jacketed bullet at 2800fps. Folks over at RFC frequently discuss swapping barrels, but I don’t ever recall...

Oh-oh….S&W 629 Deluxe Light Primer Strikes!!

FWIW, “light primer strikes” (meaning a light dent in the primer) just means the round didn’t go off. You said the problem showed itself during rapid, but not slow, DA shooting. It’s possible the trigger didn’t come fully forward to reset. You might be riding the trigger on the return, the...

    S&W 686 Plus vs. Colt Python 2020--Prices

Right. "Smooth" is more important than "light". Even so, it's a rare gun who's trigger can't be improved with a good action job by someone who knows what they're doing. Most of my revolvers have triggers which have been worked on, but my 3" M65 from the 90s is one of those rare factory gems. If...

S&W lock plug.. 1st time I seeing this.

Well, when talking The Divine & PA, I gotcha beat - I was born in Bethlehem ;) . Raised in rural countryside outside of it, then moved to the south after college.

S&W lock plug.. 1st time I seeing this.

On recreational forums like this, true 'nuff. Competition is hard on guns, yet they have to reliably perform at a high level, and IME, the majority of competitive wheelgunners choose to run newer lock- and MIM-infested guns. S&W's execution of the newer stuff can be spotty, but functionally...

    These cartridges would not fire.

As mentioned earlier, a light primer dent just indicates the round didn't go off. Could be a primer issue or a gun issue. Either way, it doesn't mean much more than the round didn't go bang. Something about the pencil test: Often, it's done with a cocked full-sized revolver. Your 442 is DAO...

    Thoughts on a Modern S&W model 17

Just to be clear - at least when I shot those Rimfire Steel matches, there were no reloads on the clock. There were timed strings of less than 10 rounds, and you reloaded (off the clock) between strings.
