Balanced Article on Open Carry in the NY Times

I am the Paul Higgins quoted in the article. Ian (the journalist) was paraphrasing there from a lengthy discussion and got the message it bit wrong. Although I forgive that as overall I feel the article is quite positive to Open Carry, particularly for the New York Times. You are in fact...

Firearms in National Parks - Poll

www.aolnews.com/nation/article/gun-toting-visitors-heading-to-national-parks/19353107 There are 2 poll questions in the article. We're currently losing. "What do you think of the new rule allowing guns in national parks?" "Do you plan to carry a gun at national parks?"

    Brady Campaign attacking Starbucks

http://www.bradycampaign.org/legislation/gunlobbybacked/opencarryguns For those not in the know on goings-ons in California, the Open Carry community has been getting more active. Groups have been meeting in various public establishments. As a result of a Brady Campaign bullying, the Peet's...

SAF, Calguns Foundation challenges California handgun ban scheme

The CalGuns Foundation and the SAF both could use our financial support right now. After so many decades on defense here in California, it feels damn good to be on offense now!

It Keeps Getting Worse in California.More "Loopholes" Need to be Closed

First, there is no distinction between handguns and long guns when it comes to loaded. Concealed is a different matter (PC 12025). Loaded is PC 12031. Basically, you can't load anywhere where you can't shoot, which includes public roads. Fire roads out in the BLM or NF are sometimes public...

It Keeps Getting Worse in California.More "Loopholes" Need to be Closed

This law will have no effect whatsoever. PC 12031 states: 12031. (a) (1) A person is guilty of carrying a loaded firearm when he or she carries a loaded firearm on his or her person or in a vehicle while in any public place or on any public street in an incorporated city or in any public...

A caveat about the "open carry" trend.

In California, that would be an exercize in futility. They'll most likely say, "I'll arrest you." When you demonstrate how it is legal, they'll say, "I'll detain you every time I see you." or best of all, "What if a rookie cop shoots you." Like a poorly trained rookie cop is justification to...

a note to U.S. based gun makers, with a view to California Dreaming

The Microstamping addition to the "Safe" handgun list (which was signed by the Republican Govenator) will probably be slammed in the courts before it ever goes into effect. For a list of companies still doing business in CA, you can look here: http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/

When the "Ice hits the fan", lessons learned

I had the power go out for six days a few years ago. On day three, I drove 3 hours to find a store that still had a generator for sale. What you do is turn off most of your breakers, and just turn on the one or 2 that you need, and then only run the generator an hour or two a day for the fridge...

You're carrying and the store detector goes off

A lot of people keep saying that in some states, you are required to consent to a search. Um, what? Let me quote a little old document we should be familiar with:

    Emergency Dry Box

These are not the slightest bit waterproof. I like em, but they do not seal at all. Ammo cans seal better, but are still hit-and-miss. Pelican cases seal well, but will let pressure out, by design. If you really want truely air-tight, then use PVC pipe and glue it shut.
