I'd get a Garand. I believe Springfield makes a .308 Tanker. My reasoning being that if you can only have up to 10 rounds, you might as well get a fast reload.

My Dad had one, it always worked well and was accurate enough. If the price was right, I'd have no hitch in buying one.

I'm interested in the FNP 45, but I'm wondering how much more recoil is felt in plastic framed .45's than, say, a government 1911?

Will they be fine with standard .308? I reload for my FAL and 10FP using .308 brass, I don't push it very hard but its probably slightly hotter than Spanish 7.62x51.

I like the .308 Winchester. Of course, a .30-30 isn't a bad suggestion either. You could go for an AK or SKS, if you would like a semi-auto that is similar to the .30-30 in power.
