I love mine - feels great in the hand, and very accurate. A bit heavy for a 9mm do to the all-steel construction, but that helps you keep the pistol on target.
I have a full size 1911, a Commander size model (S&W 1911SC), a SIG P220 Carry and a SIG P220 Compact (dehorned SAS model, with night sights and short reset trigger). I like shooting my 1911s at the range, and keep my P220 Carry handy for home defense, but have found my everyday carry pistol is...
I bought a P228 in 1993, and several other new, CPO, used and even one surplus SIG in the years since then - (P6, P220 Carry, P220 Compact, P226 Navy, and P239). Never had any need for customer service.
The best reference on the military Thompsons is American Thunder II by Frank Iannamico. Unfortunately, it is now out of print, but sometimes available at gun shows, etc. As already mentioned, you can learn a lot on the Thompson forum at machinegunboards.com I own and frequently shoot a...
Scrubber,
I have never fired an FN pistol - I apologize if I have mistaken the number of rounds the magazine holds. The salesman simply handed it to me after I held the P227 so that I could see that it felt about the same in the hands but held several more rounds. He felt that was part of...
The price seems fair to me. I recently bought a surplus Israeli Tanfoglio Mossad (small frame Witness) from Gary Cole on Gunbroker. He has quite a few listed, asking from $249-$289. Mine had some finish wear, but internals were in excellent condition. The lock-up is tight, and it's proving...
It would be nice if the grip felt better. In fact, I was prepared to buy the one for sale locally until I handled it. It didn't feel nearly as good in my hand as my P220s, and only holds 2 more rounds. Afterward, the salesman handed me an FN 45. It held 14 rounds, and didn't appear any...
My local gunshop has had one in stock for several weeks - asking $899 for it. I have several SIGs, including a P226, P220 Carry, and a P220 Compact. The P227 grip feels "chunkier" in my average size hands than a P226. I had been considering one until I handled it. I'll stick with my P220s.
You'll be very happy with your M9. I've fired thousands of rounds through several of them (my personally owned civilian M9 and 92FS pistols, as well as numerous USGI M9s) and have never experienced a jam. The closest I got was when I dropped a mag in the sand and inserted it into the pistol...
I thought it was pretty cool that a 98 year old pistol was still serving with Allied forces in a combat zone! So did she, after I told her what the serial number meant!
They've been in US service much more recently than that - the US Navy had them until around 2000. They were still on many ships when I left sea duty in 1997, and had largely (probably not entirely) been replaced by Berettas on the waterfront when I returned to sea duty in 2000. While I was...
