I'm looking for opinions on the quality of Taurus revolvers these days. In asking around at local shops they tell me that its about the same quality as a Ruger. Specifically, I am looking at the 617 with 2 inch barrell. I havent yet decided on blue or stainless.

I have a Ballitic Plex on my Browning Abolt and I agree that its a good scope for hunting.
I've heard mixed reports on Nikon so I am not sure about it even though the price is appealing.
I just bought a Remington 700P LTR for long range target practice and I'll probably take it hunting...

So does anyone know of any scopes that have bullet drop compensator knobs for around $500?
The closest thing I can find is three of the Leupold Mark 4 scopes for around $1k and add a couple hundred more for the TMR reticles...
I was going to stick with a Burris Ballistic Plex but I want to try shooting upto 800yards. Would a Mil-Dot scope be the way to go? Any suggestions on scopes? ...under $500?
This is a new area for me to sorry if this is a silly question...
What are the varmint calibers?
I'm thinking that 223, 22-250 and 243 are the main ones?
What makes one better than the other?
I've been using a 3-9x40 and have been wanting to try a higher power for long range. I think Eshell had the answer for me and I'll probably go with the 4.5-14x40(which is what I was leaning towards anyways).
Thanks again to everyone for the feedback.
Well, I bought the 700P LTR this weekend. Cant wait to try it out.
I'm thinking about putting either a 4.5-14x42 or a 6.5-20x50 on it.
Any recomendations? Hunting/Target shooting.
