I can certainly see both sides and as stated earlier I have carried both. I believe it was Jeff Cooper who put it best when he said the only thing a handgun is good for is to fight your way to your rifle. Handguns are generally a compromise. If I had an elk on the ground during a bowhunt and I...
I cross the Mississippi and make it to Montana to chase elk with a bow every few years. I used to carry my 5" 629 with 305 grain buffalo bore loads. They're wonderfully powerful rounds. I however have changed to a Glock 20 in 10mm shooting the 200 grain hardcast Underwood ammunition. What it...
I am in the same boat as most here. I can shoot for years on what I have although I have started shooting more .22 LR and less centerfire shooting. It's much less fill the mag up and shoot these targets as fast as possible more double taps and working on specific things. As far as components go...
While I already have a .44 and 45-70 that are more than enough for deer here in Ohio I am intrigued by the .400 Legend. I however am not excited about either the Savage or Mossberg rifles I have seen available. Has anyone gotten a chance at other rifles available in this caliber preferable bolt...
Mook stole my answer, we are pretty involved in scouting and Be prepared is my answer. whether it's a feral dog or a human that's bent on evil things on innocent people I want to be ready. And the other honest part is I love firearms.
Great point my paternal grandfather gave me a fixed blade knife that he made while serving in WW2 I used it to quarter an elk and have left it in the safe since I am scared I would lose it. That knife along with the farm I now run was once his and it's a strong connection to him.
I can't say I'm in a hurry to get to the giving guns to grandkids stage of life but I'm sure it'll be bittersweet. I just found out I will become a grandpa in September and I have a .22 chipmunk tucked away for when the youngster is ready.
My normal practice is standing shots on a 6" gong at 50 yards either with my ruger .223 bolt gun or my .22lr CZ. I will then move to 100 yards to a 12" steel plate both of these are offhand I also have a plate at 250 yards that I drop into a kneeling position for. If it gets longer than that I...
I still hunt with my 3.5 inch # 5's mostly because I have 5 rounds left I will use them this season. I know I am getting old when I read these threads and think wow whats wrong with getting them within 20 or 30 yards it's way more fun! My daughter and I doubled on some toms last year at about...
190$ per 1,000 primers really is where buying loaded ammunition starts to make more sense. I am holding off buying any reloading components for a while I have a decent stockpile and will shoot more .22LR to help it last. H4350 for 60$ per pound hurts a bit when you're going through 65 grains per...
