    1897 sling suggestion

I would like to sling my 1897 without heatshield, but was looking for suggestions. Was thinking maybe a barrel band 2-3" past end of mag tube ??? I don't want to hang anything off the mag tube, had thought about having existing mag band screw drilled and tapped, but they're pretty small.

    Sporting use for #4 buck

It works great on Coyotes from the 28" mod choke barrel on my 20 ga to 40-50 yds. I would be hard pressed to use it on deer. Home defense, I would trust it, men are a lot less resiliant than deer, and the ranges would be much less. IMHO

Looking for an 1897 expert, Please?

Drilled, tapped and installed a front bead this weekend, but have had no luck getting the screws loose that hold the barrel band on. The magazine band bushing will rotate slightly, but the screws will not budge from it. Tried blow drier on hot , got it hot enough to the boil the Liquid Wrench I...

    Charles Daly?

A friend in College had a CD 12 ga. SXS that was a dream. Wonderful quail gun, but it was light, and heavy loads really beat you down at the end of the day.

    1897 question

No, I'm not sure you understand what I was asking. The barrel band is sliding up the barrel with the mag tube instead of the mag tube sliding in the bracket.

    1897 question

May sound stupid, but on a 97 takedown, after the mag tube is rotated, my barrel band slides forward with the mag tube on the barrel. It's not supposed to do that I assume.

    Ithaca 37 front sight bead

Mine didn't, but I snugged it up pretty good in the handle, and went carefully.

    Ithaca 37 front sight bead

Use a little Locktite and a tap handle to tighten, it should stay if the threads are good.

    Bead installation

    That makes sense.

    Bead installation

I thought maybe center punch the spot with a wooden dowel in the barrel. I have one pretty sharp.

That makes sense, I kept thinking "pop a string line" :D

    Bead installation

I ordered a drill, tap, and set of beads from Brownells, and I have a drill press, now, 64 dollar stupid question, how do I determine exact top dead center of barrel to center punch and drill. Also, I have a couple that are tapped through, installed, and I assume filed to bottom out flush on the...

    Bead installation

No, my Brother cut the barrel back and never got around to "re-beading" it, so I have no frame of refrence.
