    New Hornady 35 rem ammo...what a mean...

Yes, I sighted in my .35 Marlin with this new ammo. It looks great on paper, grouped very tight, better than the Core-Lokts ever did. Hopefully I'll get the chance to try it on a deer in a couple weeks. I'd say it is definitely worth the money ... so far. Also think the 7600 in .35 Rem. is a...

    Which lever action, which caliber?

Look at the Browning Lever Lightweight in .308. Weighs only 6lbs. 8ozs. and should be very easy for your wife tohandle and shoot comfortably. If you can afford it the BLR is the only way to go these days if you want a high powered cartrige in a lever action rifle. The Savage 99F is a good...

In reality, which is the more effective combat round?

The .308!! Yes you can carry more .223 ammo vs. .308. BUT the .308 doesn't deflict like the .223 does. It penetrates foliage, dirt, mud etc. better. Most times in combat your target isn't standing out in the open so I would opt for the .30 caliber weapon ever time for that reason. Ask any...

    Best Caliber for Semi-Auto Rifle

Take yourself down to a sporting good store that hopefully has both BAR in stock. Hold them, sholder them, see how they feel to YOU. Then buy the one you like best. Don't worry what your buddy's will say. I had used a Rem. 742 .30-06 for years without any problem. I recently got a BAR...

    Best Caliber for Semi-Auto Rifle

I've had great luck with the Rem. 742's in .30-06 and .308. This year I'm going to use my new BAR Stalker in .308. If your rifle collection will be limited, I'd go with the '06 since it is about the best all around caliber followed by the .308. I'm a big fan of the .30 caliber as you can...

Do I really have to get a rifle with a scope?

Learn the basics of shooting first...this will include a lot of missing...which is good for the learning experience. Try a good receiver / peep sight to start with. When you've mastered that then think about a scope. Have fun...good luck. NYHunter

    Favorite 30-06 rifles

I have two '06's. My personnel favorite is my Rem. 760 '06 made in the early to mid 60's. That would be post grooved forend, and pre free floating barrel versions. The other '06 was my Dad's model 700 ADL. Both shoot great!! Don't know what action your prefer, but if this rifle will be used...

    Winchester Model 64

$650 is top dollar. Ask for an inspection time frame, usually 3 days when buying on-line or through the mail, to see how it shoots. If the rifle shoots well, keep it. With the new Hornady LeveRevolution ammo the rifle will be capable of taking deer sized game out to good 200-225 yds. Enjoy!

New hunting rifle. Carbine or not

I'm tusseling with the same question myself with regard to the 7600 pump. I already have (2) 760 rifles, one is an '06 and the other is a .300 Sav. Not that I need it, but I'd like to get a pump in .308. As you can see I am partial to the 30 caliber. I will probably go for the 7600 rifle and...

BAR action vs bolt for accuracy

I had 2 BAR's, an '06 & .300 Mag. both shot very well. I just picked up a new synthetic stocked BAR carbine in .308 which I have not shot yet. Semi-auto's can be just as accurate as bolt actions. You just have to spend the time, and $$, to find what load your rifle likes best. I've been lucky...

Rem 750...anyone know if these are available?

Nice groups! Even the 2nd group of Win. Supremes grouped about .5". The Federal is hard to beat though. It really is nice to buy a new rifle and have it shoot so well "out of the box". If the deer cooperate you should definitely have venison in the freezer this season. Good luck, let us know how...

    Attention bear hunters....

Big Bore said it ALL . Being scent free is critical, and being quite and sitting still is second. Showering with scent free soap/shampoo before going out every afternoon really is important. Some laugh, but it does make a difference. If you use a lever action rifle be sure to cock the hammer as...
