What is the most accurate Scout Rifle?

From what I recall of what Cooper wrote about the Scout rifle, it was intended to be lightweight, quick to get into action, and have hunting/combat accuracy (2 MOA or better). If you're trying to hit a deer-sized target at under 300 yards, the rifle doesn't need to be shooting 1/2 MOA, and...

    Who doesn't tumble?

I don't. I only load .38 special (and soon k-hornet & 7.62x39), and i just can't be bothered. I have a small apartment, so I use a lee hand press, and it's really nice to put all my loading equipment in one box & put it on a shelf. If any cases are gritty I'll wipe em off with a rag but...

    CZ rifles

Probably not going to help matters any, but I finally got to shoot my 7.62x39 527 Carbine, and... It's all true. Handles great, shoots more accurately than I can (not saying much, honestly), light kick, cheap ammo, damn near perfect. I'm planning to put a Leupold ultralight scope on it and use...

    Is reloading really worth it?

Worth it to me- I only have a Lee hand press so it's not a quick process, but I love sitting down with a pile of brass, turning on a podcast and cranking out 50 or 100 rounds. The monetary savings are modest because I don't shoot all that much, and I only load for .38 Spl, .22 k-hornet and...

NRA Stickers on Car. Good Idea or Not?

I don't put stickers on my car because I don't like stickers on my car, but I don't think that an NRA sticker is any more likely to incite problems than any other political-themed car uglifier. I've seen tons of (mostly trucks, to be honest) vehicles with NRA stickers over the years, and none...

I've reduced calibers a LOT, and am happy. You?

    What scope for CZ-527 7.62x39mm?

I'm actually in about the same situation as you are- I'm probably going to get a 527 soon, and I did some research into what kind of sights and/or scope to put on it. For my intended use (deer hunting/just shootin' stuff) the Leupold FX-II ultralight 2.5x20mm seems pretty close to ideal...

What is the best rifle ever made?

I'm gonna say the Short Magazine Lee Enfield. Fastest bolt action ever made. Rugged, reliable, accurate and powerful enough for almost any purposes. Not scary looking. Maybe it's just because I really want one...

    The AR Platform Has Won

Whoops, good point. Anyhow, the point stands if you just take out the "military". If anything, it emphasizes the versatility of the AR even more, because you can use one for a wider variety of shooting than a relatively specialized rifle like the Model 70.

    The AR Platform Has Won

Jonny V said: An apt comparison, I think, though perhaps not as you intended. Look instead at the AR as a HAMBURGER, not as just the Big Mac. One of the most popular foods in the world (or at least America). Hamburgers can be had (or easily made) with ingredients (components) of any quality...

BUG out bag, is BUG an acronym?

Waitaminute... Tell you about somebody who needed a bug-out-bag, unless they needed one in one of the recent, nearby, easy-to-relate-to situations that the bug-out-bag is intended for? Having a bag with emergency supplies handy in case you need to evacuate your home hardly seems like a...

    Deer rifle/shotgun

I'm thinking about deer hunting for the first time this fall, and I'd like to be sure that I have an appropriate gun for it. Background: I'm 28, living in NW Vermont, and have a modest collection of guns, but have never hunted. Any hunting that I DO end up doing will be in VT, so figure mostly...

    S&W revolver issue

My Model 15-4 has developed a bit of an issue... A bit of a burr has developed around the hole where the firing pin pokes through the frame. This burr will frequently catch on the head of a cartridge and either prevent the cylinder from rotating, or just make it really difficult. My...

What makes the .357 Mag 125gr unquestionably the best manstopper?

Marshall & Sanow If anybody's interested, this is the most in-depth review I've seen of the Marshall & Sanow book: http://yarchive.net/gun/ammo/marshall_sanow.html Now back to lurking.

    Texas or New Hampshire?

New Hampshire Climate is better, and while we may think we're god's gift to the earth, we don't feel the need to spend half our time telling everyone about it. Plus the gun laws and skiing are better, and you get to be close enough to Mass. to really make fun of them.
