Hey guys, ive got some extreme plated 150 grain flat points that they say not to push past 1600 fps. Ive also got a pound of 4198 powder Whats a good starting load for the 30-30 win? I do have a chronograph

since its the same powder just different lots I would mix them together and shake it very thoroughly for at least a minute or two. then you would need to work up a new load to be on the safe side. just don't ever try mixing different powders

Only thing i can suggest is try different COAL's i load mine to 1.250( for 230 graind plated rn)

for what it's worth I use berries 230 grain plated bullet also and I always set them to 1.250 coal. that works great in my 1911

Ive been wondering this also... especialy temp affect on powder... i keep most of my powder in the house, but i left a jug of titegroup out in the shop all summer. And now the grains stick to the insode of my powder dropper... i took it aparts amd cleaned it, with a brush, ( compressed air...

The other day i drove to the ange to chrono some new reloads i was testing. But when i was setting up, i realized i forgot my tripod for the chrono.... I said no big deal, ill just set the chrono on the bench and shoot from further back... then i realized i left the ammo i was supposed to...

I use a single stage press so flareing would add a whole nother round through the press to flare them. Right now ita just twice through the press, one to decap and resize, and once to seat bullets. Plus i dont trim pistol cases so i would have varying flares and crimps.

this may sound weird, but my favorite part of reloading is picking up all the old dirty range brass bringing it home and putting them in the Tumblr and watching it come out looking like new!

Yeah i dont know if its worth saving $20 , but spending more time belling and crimping. But i guess everyone has there own ways of doing things :) thanx for all the input guys. I feel better now.

Yeah i rinse because of dirt from the outdoor range. And no i dont use the same colander we use for food lol. Also most of my dies are old steel dies. With the exception of my .40 s&w is carbide. So basically, as long as i dont bell my case moutha, i dont need to worry about crimping right...

Pro chrono is the best. Check em out on amazon. Never had a read error

By the way the 4.7 gr titegroup with 180 gr berrys bullets at 1.135 chronoed at 960 fps

Im confident in my powder dropper and i set my COAL to 1.135 on .40 and ive never had a setback issue. My 40 cal gun is a sig p229. I think they are plenty strong enough right?

Do you mind if i ask what your loads are for 40 and 45? Bullet type ad powder charge weight?
