The single shot H&R/NEF rifles fill the bill on price, accuracy, and come in many popular calibers, they even had a 7.62x39 model. Maybe not a home defense gun, since it is a single shot, but good plinking and hunting. Look at the Stevens value line that Savage has had out recently. Nice guns...

I've been looking at a polymer Witness pistol in 10mm,with some of the same use in mind. It seems as light as the Glock, but has a rifled barrel. I haven't read any reviews about the 10mm version, but people seem to like the others.
