Pros and cons to any powder. LilGun burns much hotter than others. True or not, Freedom Arms expressly warns against it in their expensive revolvers. What I like about 2400 is normal primers, versatility, metering, and you can load midrange with it.
2400 has been my go to since about 1958. 357, 44, even 45 Colt plus cast in 22 Hornet, 30-30, and 30-06 and occasionally 45-70. I see no reason to change. Many ground hogs, deer and jugs of water killed. Don't need mag primers and often not even gas checks. Keep your H110/296.
About fifty years back I shot in a three position small bore league at the Peoria armory. It is now a roofless empty shell. I used either an original 52 Winchester with a 6X scope (horrible scope for indoor) or a friend's Remington 37 with a Super Targetspot 20X.
Eley Club ammo was $22/brick...
I shot more metallic before I retired, sometimes three or four times a week on the way home from third shift as my club was only slight deviation. Wife worked first kids were in college. Postal matches, cast bullets, home brew slugs, I put a ton of metal in our 100 yard berm.
Miss it but when...
Pretty common styling. That is not a criticism. If you look at Kind it's book, Thoughts on the KY Rifle in the golden Age" you will see several that could be cousins.
Very nice overall but without having it in my hands I can't comment on workmanship. Looks better than my first flinter.
I have one of those. Bought it from the original owner. Rough shape cosmetically but tight. He wouldn't take a penny less than he'd paid for it. I forced him to take $25 more than that.
I can remember back when Ruger brought out the Old Army they stated that using ffffg (4f) with a round ball would get you over 1000 fs. I shot some in mine and it was stout. I've heard stories about the River people shooting a cylinder full of Bullseye without damage but I call BS. I've seen...
I am buying nothing for now. I have guns I haven't shot in years and until my wife can walk and drive again they will stay in the case. I am prepping cases and casting bullets for my 30-30 project..
It was a work around when the 45/410 was banned as a sbs . Due th copycats like Walter Craig importing sawed off 410 shotguns from Brazil with shallow rifling scratched in the barrels to take some sales from TC and their Contender 45/410.
Many folks bought the 44 Hotshot barrel and promptly had...
In our commercial loading days, late 60s through late 70s, with 38 special cases, brass lasted a long time, nickle not as long. Dozens of cycles. This was target grade ammo using 2.7 BE and 148 hbwc. 357, loaded to the top sensible range, would often develop cracks in the neck as early as the...
Won't fight you over it but as the preacher said this morning, preaching from Romans, "live at peace" with those of differing opinions. Mine is different as I find the Model 12 right up there.
The muzzle rest was standard in the days of black powder chunk gun, slug gun and round ball bench rest shooting. Also for the early days of Scheutzen uing black powder cartridges, either fixed or "muzzle-breech loading. I did it with my rolling block with 1 1/8" a cross the flats octagonal...
