I paid $175 for the same rifle with about 900 rounds of green tip ammo several years ago at an pre-estate sale. The orthodontist's young widow had 200 on the ammo cans and I offered $150. She countered with 175 "if you take this rifle too". Somehow beat up stainless winchester 1300's were...
I have a taurus pt92 and much prefer it to the M9 that I carried for 6 years. The frame mounted safety is much easier for one handed operation. The Hi-Power is a really nice weapon as is anything from CZ. Hard to go wrong with any of those choices.
I like my P22, never had any trouble with it and she doesn't care about ammo. It makes a decent CCW during the hotter summer months. I figure a .22 on my hip is better than my .45 in my drawer.
I have a CZ-52 that I paid under $100 for a couple years ago. I'd be confident until I had to reload. The foolish mag release on the bottom never works too well. It rings the hell out of the plates on the Texas star and dueling tree though.
Have you looked into the .41 magnum at all? It is my favorite wheelgun caliber by far. Nice flat shooter with enough power to take a black bear (2 so far). Factory loads are harder to come by, but CTD always has a good selection.
Definitely agree on the mossberg 500 or even a maverick 88 if you want the safety by the trigger. I have never been let down by a mossberg, on the range, in the woods or in combat.
I have a Charles Daly 1911 that is an absolute tack driver. The only drawback is that it doesn't like JHP's very much, since you are looking for a range gun that shouldn't matter. I don't think they sell them new anymore, but there is probably a comparable one from RIA (also armscor import)...
