Tikka T3X Super Varmint .223 report

I agree, 1-8 twist will easily stabilize 77 grain, especially with the added speed of the longer barrel.

Tikka T3X Super Varmint .223 report

Try some 77 grain HPBT over Varget or Rel 15

    Ruger 380 ACP pistols

I like my little Ruger for what it is. Group is 7y offhand with those Gold Dots. Shooting quickly isn’t as pretty but will work in a pinch. Not my usual carry but SO NICE for urban rucks and taking the kids to the park. I don’t have a ton of rounds through it but it’s been 100 percent...

.22lr revolver - how challenging to keep clean?

Get a .22 and shoot the snot out of it, it will make you a much better shooter. Light to moderate clean is all it will need to keep shooting great. I love my Single Six and clean it only when the rounds get tough to seat due to fouling.

    Ruger American Rimfire, Ammo Testing

That was very helpful, thank you!

    Ruger American Rimfire, Ammo Testing

That’s got to be so much fun with a suppressor! How bad is the maintenance on that Dead Air Mask? I’ve been seriously considering getting a rimfire can this year.

    Good Meat grinder?

The wife got the smallest/cheapest from cabelas several years ago. It’s done great and a higher volume one would be of little value given the fact that all of the meat care prior to grinding takes the most time and effort anyway.

Man stabs cop to death before armed civilian stops him.

That cop did nothing wrong. LE doesn’t approach typical calls for service from 20 yards away and demand folks show their hands. No time to get of the X or draw a gun either. Hard truth- it’s easy to kill anyone if you have the element of surprise and are committed. Murder isn’t hard. As a...

JM Marlin 336. Am I Out of Touch?

My uncle and hunting mentor gave me this 1950’s in .35 Remmy. It’s priceless to me but certainly not worth a grand objectively speaking. It does shoot better than expected though and is well made.

    Major virtue of a revolver

Good points! Another sometimes overlooked benefit of a revolver in bad situations is a contact shot. No slide to go out of battery can be very important up close and is one reason I really like a Jframe as a backup.

Hornady ELD-X or Barnes LRX for long range Elk?

Good luck, Barnes “LRX” never made sense to me given both the lack luster BC and documented lack of expansion with all copper at reduced impact velocity. And yes I’ve tried Barnes a couple of times on game and they need a higher impact velocity to kill cleanly.

    I need a .40 S&W - Sig 229 (just thoughts)? or a Glock 23

More important than looks, it’s just better made and smoother shooting.

    I need a .40 S&W - Sig 229 (just thoughts)? or a Glock 23

I carried an issued Glock 22 for years and shot it well. That said, I REALLY enjoy shooting my P229 .40 and even have been carrying it off duty in cooler weather.

Do you carry a handgun in and around the house?

Who packs a handgun in their own abode? Concealment is no issue there. I keep my AR slung at all times and simply sling it behind my back when cooking or putting the kids to bed.

    Low price optics

Unfortunately (as Vortex and others have proved time and again, and not in a good way) good optics come with a price. I’ve had inexpensive rifles that shoot lights out but for magnified optics, you can’t go cheap and get something good. Also the higher in magnification one goes the more issues...
