My favorite is the Accurate 43-240W. Type 3 wadcutters - the wadcutter that loads like a standard velocity round, albeit with an elongated exposed tip.
Picked up a brass mold from Accurate, a 240gr type 3 wadcutter. They run great through revolvers and leverguns.
I love shooting wadcutters. I think I have all the old school designs Ideal and Lyman ever came out with for 38/357 too.
The worst I ever got was a DOC trade in Smith Model 64. It was so caked in carbon i believe nobody had ever, and I mean ever, cleaned it before.
After giving it some Hoppes #9 love, it looked brand new and had a butter smooth trigger. Not a bad buy for $300.
I'd look at the current PSA offerings before getting the Sport. A buddy of mine recently purchased one, and had serious buyers remorse. He wanted one a little more mil spec-ish, and was disappointed.
Odd looks? Some old fudd at the range was bashing my 9mm AR and called it a ghetto blaster. Whatever, I could still outshoot him and his Viagra needing ass anyways.
Check out the M14 Forum, there's a whole section dedicated to optics, and someone can probably point you toward the light.
I'm going to do a Bassett rail on mine soon enough, probably with Leupold glass. Can't wait!
If you think you might want to build your own, which is both fun and informative, check out the tech sections at AR15.com. The few extra dollars you spend in tools will be offset by the amount of knowledge you learn by building your own.
I have a 1971 94 in 30-30 that i bought off a retired doctor a few months ago. It's in excellent condition and shoots just as well. I might give it a go next deer season.
