I think most AR10's with free floated non-chromelined barrels will be able to shoot sub moa at 100 yards. At 600 I'm not sure.
If he's really looking to shoot long range and compete, skip the 30 cal cartridges. 6.5 creedmoor should be at the top of the list.
Barrel length atleast 18in if...
It's possible, but at a price.
I own a 1 moa capable M1A. It holds 1 moa to about 600 yards. At 100 yards i'm getting under 1 moa groups. I haven't shot extensively past that, but i'm impressed it shoots that well with a factory trigger.
It's a Springfield armory loaded, chromoly barrel...
a .264 caliber is an excellent choice. Go with a common caliber. 260 rem or 6.5 cm can both be formed from 308 brass.
Box Stock, the remington 700 5R, Tikka Sporter (or any heavy barreled Tikka), or that new Sig SSG 3000 are 1000 yard capable. However all of these choices are slightly over...
Depends on what you are going to use it for.
CAS the ruger or USFA would be better.
Hunting probably the blackhawk
General target shooting and range work, I would pick the Italian or USFA.
I went with the Ruger New Vaquero for general range work, and I wish I had gotten a Uberti (taylor)...
RC, I agree about the balance part, however I feel that the stock spring in my Ruger is on the light side for my tastes, where I don't mind the heavier spring on the Uberti as you can see from the video.
Kernel, I've probably dryfired it over 1000 times by now with snap caps. It's slick, but...
Now I understand in CAS you want to be able to shoot fast, but for the average shooter, I think lighter hammer springs are silly.
So after scouring the net I chose the Ruger Vaquero over the Uberti Cattleman based on reviews. My friend got the Uberti so I am able to compare them side by side...
By the time the snap caps have corroded to the point where it's noticeable, the entire action of the gun is probably well frozen up and the barrel compromised by rust.
Dryfiring is not going to hurt the gun either.
This situation is like leaving the house unlocked because you don't want the...
I second the ultradot.
Actually the batteries do last very long. Over 1 year if left on, not as long as the latest aim point, but longer than any other red dot.
The bushnell and the eotech are the only holographic sights, the rest are red dot sights.
Totally worth it.
However, There are cheaper alternatives.
The aimpoint clones are generally lower quality than equivalent red dots of the same price.
The ultradot is a not well known alternative. Used exclusively over Aimpoints in bullseye pistol, it's probably more accurate under 100...
