Pp 32-33
The procedural aspects of this case are pretty messy. Indeed, who does one sue to restore 2nd Amendment rights ... the Sheriff, the state of Michigan, the ATF?
I call your attention to pp 32-33 of the opinion where the court states ...
In this case, the regulatory scheme that...
Restoring Gun Rights to Individuals with Mental History Problems
Like felons, anyone with a history of mental illness may not possess firearms or ammo or, in most states, possess a CCW permit, without going through a restoration process. However, there was a recent court of appeals decision...
P232 Fan
I like the looks of the PPK-style pistols and considered the Bersa, as well. However, I settled on the Sig P232 instead. It had a better, simpler decocker than either Walther or Bersa. It, too, fits the hand nicely and a nice firearm, but more expensive than the Bersa.
Dad's Experience in Korea
My Dad is a Korean War vet.
He said that he was issued an M1 Garand, and the rule was that you had to carry 120 rounds. That proved to be too heavy, so he traded it for an M1 carbine.
He described the first firefight as an engagement with the Chinese who came in...
You have to admit, that this is going out with panache .... The only thing better would be "Police raid brothel. Kill 107 year old patron in gun battle."
Throwing a "flash bang" grenade (a distraction device) into a room with a 107-year old would be met with "huh?"
How does a 107-year...
All Politics are local
Good point to get involved in LOCAL politics.
The "tip of the spear" in government efforts to curtail Constitutional rights is not Washington, but local officials who are co-opted by money from DC or directed to enforce a federal mandate. It won't be an FBI or DOJ...
While you may like the S&W M&P 9mm (now), I believe you will eventually start looking for something smaller/thinner.
I suggest a Sig P232.
I own both the Ruger LCP and a Star Model D (the 1970's poor man's version of the Sig 238)
The LCP hurts to shoot, so you will never practice enough...
Sig P232. It's a 380, but very shootable and the sort of thing you can practice with, concealable, reliable, simple, fun to shoot, more than adquate for civilian defensive use (i.e., make noise and run away). Uber-small concealed cannons have the drawback that, while concealable, are...
I own a Scout with a Nikon variable power pistol scope (long eye relief) mounted on the rails with quick release rings. That way, I can remove the scope when not needed (which is most of the time).
I could not warm up to plastic stocks on a battle rifle with a wood heritage (Garand), so I...
We are Professionals ... Don't try this at home
Here's a DEA lecture where the agent's "safe" Glock is discharged in front of a class (your tax dollars at work)

Las Vegas cops with a negilgent discharge during an arrest. When you are excited...
Don't buy a gun first, buy training, then select the gun that works best for you.
I recommend FrontSight in Nevada. It was WAY better than the firearms training I received as a cop. You'll fire about 800 rounds in 4 days and learn to fire two shots from your concealment garb in about 1 1/2...
This will seem like odd advice for "the best" CCW.
The best CCW is not the smallest gun or the one that is the most comfortable in your concealment truss.
The best CCW is the weapon you are comfortable shooting and practicing enough with to become proficient. In my experience, the smaller...
Sig P229 (a short P226) -- great trigger, love the DA/SA for quick follow-up shots and no safety to mess with or the scary (for me, anyway) "cocked and locked" configuration of SAs. The relatively short barrel (compared with a 226 or full sized 9mm) requires some practice for proficiency, but...
