Funny, I never considered the ear shattering sound a safety feature. I wonder if the Washington Post can document how many lives have been saved by that sound...
Check out Dixie Gun Works. They used to have blueprints of different carriages including the grasshopper. The brass parts and the wheels are the most costly but if you're good and have the time, it's worth it.
They also had molds, fuse, and cleaning supplies. Best of luck with your new toy...
Do you mean Sgt Major Dan Daly? There aren't any books I know of but some good online articles on the amazing men who earned two Medals of Honor.

I don't have combat experience with a carbine but hunted deer for many years in eastern Oklahoma with a WWII vet who used his exclusively. I tried a carbine once didn't find it very effective at dropping deer like my 30-06 or my brother's 303 but it did the job. Even with proper shot placement...
I'm a 30-06 guy all the way. I have tried other calibers but got pretty board with them. I used to hand load but not so much anymore. You can beat a round that goes from a 110 to a 220 grain and everything in between. For hunting, I didn't like the game running and with an '06, deer pretty...
I have a 1/4 & 1/2 scale that are literally a blast! I've shot roundball and grape shot on occasion but mainly just blanks at historical events and Fourth of July events. If you're going to get one, beware! They are addictive, fun, and another money hole. NSSA has some very good training as well.
"only the illegal unregistered guns stay on the street.” - This goes to show how little people really listen. The signer was anti-gun and signed without paying any attention to the words.
It looks like an Allin alteration. After the civil war, they converted some muskets to.a cartridge gun by fitting a breech loading receiver to the barrel. I would bet your lamp was a Bannerman creations in the 30s or 40s.
I wouldn't guess a value but it is probably less than the unaltered...
I personally would rather have one a few decades old over a new one. I use a 30s vintage 03 that shoots better than the operator. :) I don't think the metallurgy has changer all that much in the last few decades.
You can find sporterized mausers just about any pawn shop or gun show if you...
I was all set to buy a Cimarron Firearms High Luster 1911 because I have alwasy liked the looks of the original 1911s and then I spot the original Colt 1911A1s that Sarco has from Argentina. I have a 1991A1, and 1943 Ithaca and a Norinco. So I'm trying to chose since I only have permission for...
I moved to NOVA in late October and submitted my CWP application right away. I just got it today (exactly 45 days) and talking to the clerk, they have been swamped in Fairfax county. In December they had 800 applications, up from average 300 and in the 6 days the court has been open in January...
I've watched this post with interest because I'm one of those guys who actually procure stuff for the airmen, sailors, soldiers and marines. There is a lot that goes into an acquisition of this size and a lot of paperwork just to be considered. We fill 6 in binders full for things like this...
Definitely the Rough Riders for the 1895 Colt MGs.
Another good one is The lost battalion with a lot of good WWI. It's not often you see a chauchat in a movie.
The Ghost and the Darkness have some good English hunting guns too.

I've had an M1A1 I took as payment about 15 years ago and recently decided to sell it but have been challenged on it's authenticity. The stock has an 'OI' stamped inside the stock and on the bottom of the grip. No P in a circle that I can tell. All that should point to it being original...
