    Best design/platform for the .40 S&W ?

To the OP, congrats on the Beretta 96. It looks like you picked a winner there. The Beretta may require more maintenance than a plastic gun, but I think it offers better accuracy, reliability, safety, and handling in return. I regularly replace the trigger return spring and locking block in...

    92fs function problem.

Question for the OP: Do you regularly drop the slide with the safety/decocker in the “on” position? This practice is known to sometimes cause parts breakage. I’ve been using the platform for over 25 years and have owned several samples. My practice is to drop the slide with the safety off...

    Best 40S&W for CC

Given the OP’s criteria, it sounds like he’s looking for a Shield. It’s a proven design by a solid company with lots of accessories available for that particular model. Leather, sights, etc. I’ve shot both the 9mm and .40 version and, though I can tell the difference in recoil between the...

Installed the D mainspring in PX4 and Ed Brown "competition" 19# in Beretta 92. Results inside

Been using the factory D spring (or the Wilson equivalent) for years with no issues at all. It’s the only mod that i consider necessary with the 92, and turns it from a good shooter to a great shooter. I’ve never really had a desire to go with a lighter spring, but Langdon's tigger job in a...

    full-size DA/SA options?

If sticking with 9mm, I have a preference for the Beretta 92fs line. The caveat there is that I’ve heard of some quality control issues with late model American made versions. Some say it’s the move to the new plant in Tennessee, but I had a Maryland version made in 2013 that was slightly less...

Another "Help me decide on a pistol" poll/thread

I will volunteer to be in the minority on this one and choose the Beretta system. I think it’s primarily a result of the era I came up in, with the 92, the S&Ws, and the Ruger P series being so popular in the late eighties and early nineties. I actually like the way the slide mounted safety is...

Another "Help me decide on a pistol" poll/thread

I’m a huge fan of the Beretta 92 platform. They’re old school in that they can be personalized and set up to suit the owner’s needs, and they are rather fun to work on. Parts are common and inexpensive. They are also one of the most tested combat handguns in existence. In my experience, a...

.40 S&W, whatcha got, what do you want

Sorry, been off the forum for a few days. I work for a department that was gen3 .40 for fifteen years. Started seeing some malfunctions with weapon mounted lights on the range at Training and quals years ago. I warned some officers with other agencies who ended up coming back to thank me. It...

    Beretta 92FS Anomalies

Most of them will get a scuff mark in the same general area as yours, though that is a bit extreme (depending on how used it is). I would put a new locking block in it, along with a D spring. Put a new recoil spring in it while your at it.

    Pure honesty, 9mm in a .40

It’s a P229. You can shoot 7.62 in it and it’ll be fine.

.40 S&W, whatcha got, what do you want

My favorite .40 is my Beretta 96 Inox. I’ve got a Sig P226 I’m fond of, but it is now a dedicated 357 Sig.

.40 S&W, whatcha got, what do you want

There are some known issues with the gen3 .40 and weapon mounted lights. Supposedly there is no such issue with the gen4. I actually prefer the gen3, and have a model 23, but I don’t put lights on my guns.

    Smith and Wesson Model 915

Those are great, underrated guns. Had two back in the nineties and foolishly sold or traded them. When shopping for leather, anything that will fit a 5906 should work for the 915. I’m a Desantis and Galco fan. Congrats on the new gun.

Choosing between the P226 and P229

I prefer the balance of the P226. Mine is a .40 and I use a 357 barrel often. It has great balance and is very controllable during faster shooting. I like the P229, and tried one in .40 before buying. Both are great guns.

Winchester Ranger T-Series 127gr +P+ in Clear Ballistics Gel.

Federal still sells the 9BPLE because it still works, just like the 127+p+ Winchester. I would never say the heavier and slower rounds using modern bullets are not effective, because they are. But there are some tried and true loads that have a long enough record in the real world, not the...
