I finally shot one. I got the CM-2 out and shot this at 100 yards for a score of 45. This was my first (and best) of four targets. SK Std+, off of bags, dual aperture sight, and negligible wind. RT

If the 512 has a grooved receiver, run don't walk to grab it. If it doesn't, it would still be my pick by a mile. You can get a 10/22 or Savage anytime. I haven't seen a 512 for $200 in years and they're only going to go up. Plus it shoot short, long or LR, and the tube mag holds 22, 17, or...

For that range, you could also get a Ruger PC9 or a Marlin Camp 9. Depends on your needs whether they would serve well or not. RT

Isn't that the rifle that functions as a semi-auto or a bolt action? You push the bolt handle in (or out) to allow it to function semi and the other way to function as a bolt action. Sounds like you've got it in bolt action mode. RT

Nice job of beginning trench art. There was a trench art display at the Pink Palace in Memphis this summer. Look that up and he'll get plenty of ideas. Just watch your ammo, it may start disappearing. RT

Before you invest in a new stock and Timney trigger, you might try shimming the trigger to see if that helps. I've done it on a couple of Mosins and it's a huge difference. I'm not saying it'll be a Timney, but it's free and entertaining. RT

I'd replace the Marlin 39 in a hurry to go with that K22, but I have a rimfire bias. :) For centerfire, I had a Marlin 336 in 30/30 and it shot about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards. But if you're never hunting with it, I'd probably listen to everyone with .357 experience. Good luck, RT

First thing I thought of was Clyde Barrow's "whippit" gun, the chopped BAR that he could "whip out" in a hurry from inside the car. RT

I've never tried it, but have wondered about spraying canned air down the barrel. It won't leach heat like a cold liquid and seems like it could work. Any one tried it? RT

I installed the Tapco, and I'm more accurate now. I suspect it's the better fit for me as opposed to actually helping the rifle though. This was on the 22" WM stainless that didn't have a barrel band. RT

Any Remington 5-teen series. The single shot, box mag, and tube mag are the differences in the 510, 511, and 512. The 513 is the military trainer, and that's the last 22 I'd let go if I had to choose. The 521 is kind of a junior trainer. They're all built on the same receiver. Any former...

Using aluminum can shims to lighten the trigger on my Mosins. It's easy, but still it's a great feeling. RT

I do what Cosmoline does, but even more extreme. I imagine it's shooting about 45 degrees off, and it makes the visualization almost automatic. RT
