The most DEPENDABLE shotgun you own..

My long recoil guns have given me great, trouble free service. I really like the SKB 900 and the Franchi 48. Gas guns are OK but are not as relaible as the long recoil actions. I recently sold some of my guns. The inertia actions and the gas guns are gone. They were decent guns but required...

How do I tell what choke my Franchi 48AL has?

Mine is over 50 years old. I have never had to replace but one part, an extractor. The extractor was worn out after extracting thousand of loads. The gun shoots better today than it did back in the 1950s. Brownell's stocks parts for it.

    Trading up? (20->12)

Around 10 years ago, age creepin gup on me, with assorted aches and pains, I changed to a 20 gauge. Never looked back. I can tell no difference in the two. I hunt mostly turkey, deer, and upland game. The 20 gauge is the gun for me. I use only slugs, #6s, and 7 1/2. That covers the type game...

Did Winchester make a choked Model 12 Riot?

All of the 12's I've ever examined were cylinder choked.

    Good price for a Stevens 311 12ga.

Around these parts, a 311 in real good condition will cost you $300. I recently bought an older 20 gauge that the stock needed refinishing for $200. I bought a can of Tru-oil and had at it. I have been offered $300 for it. No sale. The local gun shop has a 20 gauge 311 in great shape for...

Benelli Nova Recoil Reducer - Source?

A roll of pennies works as well.

    Help ID Often Carried Shotgun

That gun was made before serial numbers were required. They were not required before 1968. I have several guns without s/ns.

    Backyard Shotgun

I have always used my 20 gauge with 7.5 or 8 shot. Get within 10 yards and off the head goes. They bleed out good with the head gone. In my younger days, I used a 22 to the head.

What were 12 gauge shells like in WWII?

Those that I have from that era are 2.75' with brass hulls. I don't know how many pellets are in the 00 buck loads as I've never tried to open one. I want to save them as they are and opening one would destroy the flat paper on the end.

    Why a 36" shotgun barrel??

Barrel length makes no difference in velocity as this test has proven: Longer barrels may handle better but performance is not affected by a short barrel.

    Fair Price for this Mossberg?

The DU logo will diminish the price of the gun. In my area, a DU, NWTF, or other club logo'd gun will not bring as much as a plain gun of the same model. It does not add to the value of the gun.

Why so hard to get a Benelli M1 barrel

I don't know about the extensions, but the shim kits from the Benelli fit the Stoeger 2000 with a very minor modification. Drill a small hole in the shim to allow for the firing pin mechanism to be completely extended when the bolt is pulled back. I also had to drill a very small and shallow...

Recent Trip to a Gun Store

My local hardware store does transfer for free for it's customers. For everyone else, it is $15. He is a FFL and sells a few guns and ammo, along with a huge inventory of hardware. He considers it a customer service.

Why so hard to get a Benelli M1 barrel

The main reason I don't buy Benelli is the overpricing. Another reason is that they have very poor customer service. I think their PR stinks. I'm not saying that Benelli isn't a good, even a great gun. I honestly can't afford them. Even if I could, I'd rather buy their knock-offs. I enjoy my...

    Weatherby SA-08

Think of parts if you ever need parts. I like the gun and would buy it if it wasn't for this one issue. Quality may be spotty. I don't know. I'd rather spend my dinera on a proven gun. Weatherby has been in the gun market a long time and has several manufacturers on a contract basis. Their...
