I think the loads are probably the weaker Spanish Mauser types, but the book doesn't specify. I found an article on realguns with the same rifle and the guy is loading quite a bit hotter than I am comparing the 140gr loads. Although he didn't do any of the 180gr loadings.
Thanks for the...
Hey Folks,
I'm scheduled to fly to Kentucky to visit family November 1st. I'm planning on doing some whitetail hunting on a buddy's farm while I'm there. I've been working up a load in my Ruger No.1 International rifle, but I'm kind of at a crossroads.
I'm using Berger VLD's (mostly...
I wouldn't go, but that's me. I can see both sides of this one. Do what makes you happy.
I'd regret if I "caved." That's individual before someone gets their feelings hurt by it.

This particular incident was down a street. Well inside 100 meters.
If you'll re-read my post, you'll also notice I said service calibers. To be more clear, there's a threshold of usefulness when it comes to handgun calibers for sure. Which may have been an assumption on my part to the...
Having personally seen people survive direct center mass hits with 7.62 machine gun rounds and keep fighting; I believe the energy difference between common handgun service calibers to be negligible to say the least.
Born and raised on a farm in central Kentucky. Marines took me all over (Best part: Hawaii, Worst part: Afghanistan).
Got out, went back to Kentucky worked a few years. An oil company made me an offer I couldn't refuse and earlier this year I moved my family to Oklahoma. Really love it here...
That was certainly the best group I shot of it, so they aren't all that good, but it's consistently great ammo. To the point that anymore I mostly shoot clays at 100 yards and then break those pieces into smaller pieces.
I'll definitely keep stocking up on it.
I've had really good luck with the CCI AR Tactical ammo. Which is great because it's sold in a bulk box. It's not by any means the cheapest, but the accuracy has been the best of all the bulks I have tried.
One pic is a 10 round group at 50 yards next to a cheerio.
The other is a...
I crimp 308 for the ar-10 variants, but not my bolts. Will crimp 9mm lightly for semi-auto pistols.
So basically only if the action is violent and imo calls for it. Definitely better performance with no crimp. Used to have some targets showing it from the same rifle. Wife throws too...
Don't put overtly opinionated ignorant slackjaws behind the counter.
Have a decent website.
Those two things would keep me happy. I'll even pay the lgs markup over online for those things.

Another vote for Carlson's chokes. Very fine and the company will treat you right.
The preceding advice for choke type is all pretty good, so I won't rehash that.
splithoof, thanks for that load information!
Still don't have an optic on mine but was able to hold 1" groups (5 shots) at 50 yards with the open sights using Prvi Partisan 175gr match on front and rear rests, so I'm excited to get glass on top and start playing around with reloads.
Sweet. I'm a leftie too. I'm going to have a lot of fun with it. Getting it to a neutral cast would be helpful and shimming it would also help. It's a little on the small side. I was kinda hoping my wife would claim it, but she's not a fan of it because it's harder to open than her Red Label. :(
