I would go with the Savage FCP-LE in the HS precision stock but technically I think its like $1005. If you absolutely have to have it under $1000 you could go with the new FCP-SR. It has a fluted, threaded barrel and over-sized bolt handle for $625 but I think the stock it comes with is junk...

It's 44 grains varget and a 178 hornady bthp 2.805 oal. Shoots 3/4 MOA out to 600 with ease at 2630 fps out of my 20" barrel. I am getting 4-5 reloads out of each piece of ppu brass.

Thanks for the input guys, I am going to go ahead and trim it. I have a hornady case trimmer but I dont have a shell holder that fits in the trimmer for my .308 so I will just have to buy one. Better safe than sorry and it may have a slight effect on accuracy so why not.

Thanks for the input guys. I definitely plan on chronographing it again and playing with the load a little bit. I just picked up some 175 SMKs so I plan to load them over the same charge and see how it performs.

My reloading manual shows 45 grains being the max for both a 175 grain and 180 grain bullet. This load is a compressed load though, which is why I decided not to push it any further. I am betting I would get a little bit better groups with a reduced load.
