I bought the new Lee auto index turret press when it came out with the primer feed gizmo. It looks like crap and works to perfection. I have loaded over 1000 Fed LR Magnum primers in it. I started handloading at 14 and will be 65 on 5/15. You name it, I've owned it. In all that time I have NEVER...
IMO the 3 keys with a SMLE are bullet diameter, necksizing and headspace.
A .313-.315 200-250gr gascheck cast bullet will generally work well with moderate loads and unless you plan to hunt BIG game, will kill as well as a factory 30-30. Necksizing has been covered, I would add a Lee factory...
I think Remington still makes them in some factory ammo. My friend's 788 30-30 shoot them very well (1.5"@100) but in my 30-06 721 it was a 6" 5 shot group. My guess is the Sabot worked better at lower velocity as they do in muzzle loaders and shotguns.
You can load any new brass case for 30-06 to the same pressures as a 300 magnum of any stripe, IF the action is up to it. The only independent variable, if all others have been removed, is how much powder is burning behind the bullet. A 30-378 will shoot a stout bullet (lets says Barnes 180 TSX)...
Tell Paul Larry says hello from WY. I have shot 3000+ rounds in my old 9mm Glock, most of them elcheapo reloads with lead bullets. They all worked fine, and a magazine of jacketed factory S&Bs every 500 round took care of any real or imagined leading. It has had no special care and is just my...
If you have lubesizer SPG works great for black or smokeless
If not get the lee setup. which is fine for smokeless especially with the special muti groove bullets they make molds for.
Excellent post!
+100... should be required reading for all hunters. The belief that technology is the cure all for hunting success is very popular and very wrong. I can tell from your "handle" that you know whereof you speak. Love those H&Hs. Just finished up this one (400 H&H) in spring 2006...
Too bad, you just missed a fully document NIB presentation Singer at Rock Island Auctions. You could have bought the gun OR a new Corvette!
There are, frequently, genuine WW II 45s on gunbroker and auction arms. Some are quite reasonable if they are mixed rebuilds like my Dad's that I have...
Chuck has never owned a 595 target/sniper or he would sing a different tune. My 308 is an out of the box 1/2 moa rifle with fed prem mtch ammo. Cost $650 new. Here's a very nice 22-250 (same model) I bought yesterday for $750. bet it too will shoot small holes at 1/3 the price of a TRG or even a...
Dead Steer tests S&W 329 44 magnum
When shot in the front between the eyes, the bullet ended up in the neck 18-24"
Didn't shoot at horn boss cause bears don't have horns.
When shot in front as if the head was missed, if no bones were hit they ended up in the guts +- 3 feet
Side shots on...
