    Wing shooting with flintlocks

the chucks were taken with the 12 ga flint game gun. The same chucks were pointed by Gabe (on the tailgate). He did great...his boss did OK (one missfire). Gabe looked at me kinda funny when the gun didn't go off but he did come home with me.

    Wing shooting with flintlocks

Got after doves with my Caywood Game Gun in 12 ga. Handles great, works great, looks great. A delightful gun. Fast ignition and as long as I do my part,(keep flint sharp and vent open) completely reliable. Going to have jug choke cut to modified to reach out and touch some ducks. With the 30"...

RF...what brand of French Fusil are you shooting? Caywood makes one and it is a honey. Classy shooting iron. I think there were some FF's being carried in "Last of the Mohicans".

    Wing shooting with flintlocks

AB...I carry about a pound of shot...about the same weight as a box of shotgun shells. I am using copper plated shot lead shot for upland/doves...got to try some Bismuth next. The copper plate stuff gives great patterns. I don't use shotcups...the plastic leaves a goo in the barrel. And with the...

AB...nope..use a shot flask...a leather one with "English" style spout...throws 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 charges. Pretty accurate. I also like the over-shoulder style...(called a "shot snake"...) Watch out for the "Irish" style spout if you get the over-shoulder style or a flask...it is complicated as...

    Wing shooting with flintlocks

TH...tried to hunt without the bag (called a "possibles bag")...and loaded all my gizmos in my hunting vest. Nearly slapped myself silly. When I had to reach in pockets for wads, etc. it looked like I was doing some old guy version of the "macarina". And the bag looks pretty great...maybe I will...

    Wing shooting with flintlocks

mostly smoothed out when it comes to the gear to carry. 250 years of working out the details. One pouch, with every necessary gizmo. Wads, powder flask, with pre-measured spout, shot flask, extra flints, and tool kit (flint hammer and vent pick)...probably about the same amount of gear as most...

    Wing shooting with flintlocks

OK...it can be done. Shot doves with a 20 ga flinter and actually hit them (while they were buzzing over at several hundred miles per hour....) Definitely surprized myself. Heading to the quail season with a finter designed for wing shooting. A Caywood 12 ga "Game Gun". Can't say how...
