    300 Win Mag Bafflement

I did do the insides, but what you're saying could still be happening. Do certain seating dies do a better job than others of supporting the case during seating?

    300 Win Mag Bafflement

Ok so two updates on this: 1. I set up the seating die with zero crimp. It still produces rounds that sometimes won't gauge even though they did before bullet seating. I don't think it's because of the new neck width (with bullet in neck), as all the necks mic the same. Also, when they don't...

Single-stage "utility" press for large rifle brass

Just an update: I went with the Lee Classic Cast, mounted it on my already sturdy bench with an additional two 2x6 underneath it, and I have to admit it's a beast. Resizes 300 WM like it's nothing. I'm a Redding fanboy, but I can't imagine what the Boss II could have on this thing. With the...

What cartridge to push .284 180s at 3000?

I've got the opportunity to shoot at 1500 yards frequently, and in my (limited) experience with that task, the high-bc 284s at 3000 do very well. As for the barrel, it's just because I happen to have a couple of them. But if going to a much longer one gets me the right ballistics, I suppose I...

What cartridge to push .284 180s at 3000?

Interesting. I take it if the 7wsm does it, the 7 rsaum does it too. And the 300 wsm necked down to 7, which I guess gives you a bit more neck.

What cartridge to push .284 180s at 3000?

I'm looking to push the Berger 7mm 180 bullets out of a 26" barrel at 3000 fps. It looks like the latest overbore crazy mags (28 Nosler, 7 RUM) can do much more than that. So what's a smart step down from those that will reliably hit 3000? Extra points for being a non-belted case and not having...

    300 Win Mag Bafflement

Good question. Right now I have just the gauge. But _something_ is happening to the brass during seating to take it from "go" to "no go" as far as that gauge is concerned. I think you're on to something with crimping inadvertently. I actually don't use Lee dies except for their FC dies for...

    300 Win Mag Bafflement

I've been loading pistol and rifle for about 10 years now, never came across this issue. This is my first belted case, for what it's worth. I got new Hornady 300 WM brass, full-length sized it in a standard RCBS die. Checked trim length, chamfered, deburred. Tumbled clean. Primed. Drops into...

Single-stage "utility" press for large rifle brass

Oh man. I need to figure out if I can get past my anti-Lee snobbery. :)

Single-stage "utility" press for large rifle brass

Hey all. I currently load pistol and rifle on a Dillon 650. For most of my rifle loading, I resize and prime separately, and then charge/seat progressively. Been thinking about getting a separate single-stage press for decapping and resizing tasks. What's a good but not extravagant choice for...

    Custom dope cards

I can't remember who makes them, and it's been a good 10 years, but I think someone used to sell laminated cards with accurate holdover data if you sent them your pertinent bullet info. Is that still a thing?

    Cure for rusted dies?

Update: I used Evaporust on the first set of dies today. I chose a caliber I don't need to load anytime soon, just in case. And I did remove them from the toolhead and disassemble. Whelp, this stuff is pretty amazing. The rust is just gone. I'm leaving them in overnight just to get any final...

help me pick a new 9mm powder

WST for light and accurate. PP for boomers. (Assuming they still make WST.)

    Cure for rusted dies?

Cool. How would you address pitting in critical areas where the dies contact brass? Thin q-tips and flitz?

    Cure for rusted dies?

So could this really be as simple as dropping my five filled toolheads into a bucket of the stuff and leaving them alone? Would I need to "polish" the insides of, say, the resizing dies? Or maybe just use them a few times with some well-lubed cases?
