    Size, weight, power....

Old 1970s Charter Arms Undercover .38 Special Kel-tec PF9 I tend to alternate the two based on which I can draw more smoothly out of a pocket. I carried my wife's Glock G26 but it's a little bigger and wider than those two and I have to do more to cover it up. Besides, it's my wife's.

    Changing your carry gun?

When I first got my carry permit in the early 1990s, I carried the only handgun I had: a huge .44 magnum that I'd bought from a guy in my church who needed money. My carry ammo was .44 Special. Needless to say, that got old quickly. I went to a couple of .357 4-inch revolvers but the cylinders...

Is there a place for the "Forgotten" Gauges?

So the 10 gauge is now a forgotten gauge along with the 16 and others? Has the 10 become that now? Interesting. I suppose that the "Elmer Keith Gauge" just isn't versatile enough.

Remington .38 Special 110 gr SJHP

What do you folks know about this load? Would it be a decent low-recoil option for a snubbie?

    Exceptionally soft shooting pistols

Any time that you pack a service pistol caliber in a platform as small and light as a PF9, get ready for snappy recoil. Shooting one alongside of a Charter Arms Undercover, I found that both get your attention. The Undercover feels like a close-to-your-hand "pop" while the PF9 feels more...

    Rocking Remingtons

I have a Sportsman 12, a Sportsman 48, and an 870 Express. All 3 took a little tweaking, but they run great

Is the 20 gauge the 6.5cm of the shotgun world?

[In 2008 I had to have my shooting (left) shoulder replaced and my surgeon told me my days of shooting a 12ga were over. HE WAS RIGHT. From that day forward all of my shooting and hunting has been with my 20ga guns. Now I shoot just as many waterfowl and upland game as I did before and I ain't...

    Wrong Ammo!

Good thing you didn't see 20 GA in a 12....uh, algebraic equation be like this: 20 GIFC (gauge in forcing cone)+ 12 GS (gauge shell)= KB

    Favorite 270 Winchester rifle, ammo?

Favorite .270 (and the only one I've ever owned): Weatherby Vanguard .270 Win, black synthetic stock, no Monte Carlo. Favorite load: Federal Power Shok 130 gr

So what happened to the pump rifle?

So what happened to the pump rifle? All the negatives already mentioned without enough positives to make up for them. And that has been nothing new. I was just looking at my old Henry Stebbins book from 1958 (Rifles: A Modern Encyclopedia) and even back then, when stand hunting was not yet as...

    Wrong Ammo!

I was at a range, preparing for an upcoming match. I had .40 S&W and .45 ACP rounds in 2 open boxes. I wasn't paying close enough attention and loaded a .40 as the top round into the mag of a Springfield 1911 ,45 of mine. I fired the .40 and I noticed a little blue flame come out of the barrel...

    Too many handgun calibers

Your post made me think of the small town I grew up in. We had one outdoor store in town and two auto parts chains that sold firearms and ammo. Fifty years ago there, practically every handgun for sale was some type of revolver, mostly 4 inch and 2 inch .38 specials, with a few .357s here and...

Is the 20 gauge the 6.5cm of the shotgun world?

Brad Dysinger once wrote in Georgia Sportsman magazine that although he liked all the shotgun gauges for what they were, when he was serious about bringing game home to eat he always reached for a 12 gauge shotgun. He felt that the only thing gauges smaller than 12 could do better than a 12 was...

    Opinions?

Just my opinion, but the gun at the bottom is something like what the successor to the Winchester Model 12 should have looked like. Trouble was, however, that the 500 had already been on the market 4 years before Winchester stopped producing M12s.

    Opinions?

Don't know that much about the Savage 30. My cousin once had one and didn't seem to have any complaints with it. I've had a couple of Springfield Model 67s over the years. The tang safety was a little crude-feeling and sticky, at least to me, but being metal to start with, it was certainly...
