AMT Backup (single action) vs Smith & Wesson sw380

I'm a fan of S&W autos, but the SW380 is a real piece of junk. Stay away. Stay far away.

    XD or 24/7

The XD sits in my hand like a toy dart gun. It doesn't fit me well at all. I prefer the Taurus to the XD.

    Metal Glock Frames

The point of that product is lost on me, I'm afraid.

Help choosing an Autoloader under $400

Good deals are out there to be had. There's a shop near here selling new XD .40s for $399.99. If only I liked XDs...

Anyone else shoot a S&W4013 before?

Do you have the older, single-stack 4013 or the newerm double-stack 4013TSW? The TSW will take the 11-round magazines from the 4006/411/410 pistols. There is a little adaptor that fits to the mag base so the longer mag will fit the shorter grip frame.

    A look at a custom M&P 40

The Walther P99 has a trigger of just over 4lbs right out of the box. That first pull is loooong, but you can carry it with the striker cocked and it shortens up considerably. I'd feel ok carrying an M&P with a 4.5lb trigger, but 3.5 might make me a little nervous. Really nice looking M&P, by...

    QUICK QUESTION ON S&W AUTO

You're right, a lot of crud can get in there, and I'm probably overdue to remove my grips for a thorough cleaning. The part I hate is putting them back on, and trying to keep the mainspring strut in the little pocket while I'm doing it. Speaking of which, I put a Wolff reduced power...

    QUICK QUESTION ON S&W AUTO

Use a punch to drive out the pin at the bottom rear of the grip. Once the pin is removed, you can slide the grip down and out to remove. It's all once piece. Be careful, as the mainspring strut and plunger are seated into a little pocket on the inside of the grip panel. Removing and...

Pics of my bead blasted M&P!

Did he do the front sight for you as well? Dan seems to be one of a couple of guys who were right out in front on the M&P 'smithing. I see a lot of praise for his work over on the M&P Forum. I like the two-tone look, especially with the matte finish.

Pics of my bead blasted M&P!

Looks good. It looks like you didn't go for the melt treatment. Is this a carry gun? I'm curious about how you feel about the 3lb trigger with no manual safety. It's basically cocked and unlocked with a trigger a pound or so lighter than most 1911 pattern pistols. Is there a lot of...

    Black and Tan Bobtail

I commented over on Pistolsmith.com, but again, nice work. The color combo and the stippled slide top aren't my taste, but the work looks great.

    Stress fractures in Glock slide

I don't think it was caused by dry firing at all, I think it just happened to break during dry firing. Dry firing isn't going to cause that kind of failure, and a snap cap isn't going to prevent that kind of failure.

    Smith & Wesson M & P

If you're a lefty, the M&P should work well for you. The mag release is reversible and the slide stop is ambi. I understand that the sear deactivation lever is there so that disassembly doesn't require pulling the trigger, but is it possible to just press the trigger, rather than using the...

    Cleaning handguns

There's no factory lube to strip from my internals. I think if you still have factory lube in your guns, you didn't clean it well enough when you got it. Overlubing is probably one of the most common things that people do.
