Guns you would buy that will never be made

My list is almost as big as my imagination! Guns I want that will likely never be built: HK45 in 10mm Auto Civilian-legal M249 SAW Civilian-legal VSS Vintorez 9x39mm rifle Civilian-legal SBR AK in 9x39mm M14-type rifle in .260 Rem, 7mm08, etc M14-type rifle with a long-action chamber...

Troy Defense AR-15s for Dicks Sporting Goods

Was in the local Dicks Sporting Goods today and noted a complete Troy Defense AR-15 on the shelf for $1099. It was loaded with all their accessories - Alpha battle rail, BattleAx stock, front and rear BUIS, etc. The gun is a midlength carbine with a 16-in barrel. Apparently Troy is building them...

Suggest a good hand guard for M4 please.

Daniel Defense, Troy, and Knights Armament are cream of the crop when it comes to rails. They all charge a premium and put out a very good product. The Magpul handguards are a good bit cheaper, and work great as well.

"Real" reason so many trash Model 700?

I have a 700 SPS-V, which is basically their 700P without the nice HS Precision stock, chambered in .308. The SPS stocks are cheap IMHO, but otherwise the gun has run without complaint. Consistently reliable, relatively smooth action, dependable sub-MOA accuracy. Trigger is not as crisp as I'd...

Why does my new Daniel Defense M4 feel like a toy...?

It feels like a toy because it's so light and balanced:). I'm really itching for a new lightweight carbine right now, and DD makes some of the best ARs on the market. If you want to feel an amazingly well-balanced gun, try a KAC SR-25. INCREDIBLE. I had one of those HBAR Bushies for awhile...

It'd be cool to own a SIG SG550...

Interesting. There shouldn't be durability problems with a well-made milled aluminum receiver - authenticity is the only objection. Heck, the Kalashnikov fans see the milled AKs as creme de la creme versus the stamped guns (note: both are steel receivers). The gun community often views newer...

    Barrel burners? The real numbers.

I've been told some of the biggest barrel burners are the .378-series Weatherby Mags and other mega-magnums (RUMs, .338 Lapua, Lazzeronis, etc). Any experience with therse?

    DPMS guns?

It's unfortunate that AR-related threads often turn into finger-pointing. ARs are not cheap purchases. If someone posts on THR asking whether a certain gun is worth their $700-1400 of hard-earned money, that person deserves a honest, fact-based answer. If I were in the OP's shoes, I'd rather...

It'd be cool to own a SIG SG550...

How close is the US-made 551-A1 to an original Swiss-made, semi-auto SIG 551 in terms of technical specs?

    AR-15s at Dick's

Cheap Rifle Scopes That Actually Work

The cheapest I've spent on a scope that worked was around $125 for a Bushnell red dot. Not the highest-quality thing on the world, but it was rugged and had decent glass. Otherwise I've had zero luck with cheap scopes. The low-quality glass is partly to blame, but poor mechanical reliability has...

    DPMS guns?

Since we're working off anecdotal evidence here, I've known several friends with DPMS 5.56mm rifles. All of them had issues handling anything beyond slow plinking. Most of the issues involved FTFs or FTEs when shooting a lot of ammo. DPMS guns are more susceptible to this than, say, Colts or...

    Kachok's Caliber Guide

Great writeup! This would be especially useful for novice shooters. I know I was bewildered by the sheer amount of cartridges/calibers when I first got into guns. You captured the strengths of each caliber well without resorting to hyperbole or cartridge-bashing. In addition to including...

Tell Barrett what caliber MRAD® you want to see next.

7mm RM and .260 are musts. 7RM gives you near-300WM performance with less recoil, .260 is very popular among long-range shooters and reloaders. I'd also consider the 7mm WSM and .338 Norma from a marketing perspective, as those cartidges are popular in rifles of that class.

    Bushmaster opinions please

$500 is a good deal for the gun, assuming its in functional shape. There are better AR-15 options out there for a self-defense gun, some of which can be had for under $1000. If he wants to jump on this gun, recommend that he get a new bolt carrier group just in case. The BCG is the most...
