I wanted to see how cheap I could build a lightweight portable or storable, cheap reloading bench with off the shelf components and no fabrication or carpentry.

From a simplicity perspective, I would put another vote in for Savage as they are very easy to swap barrels on, and you can very often find used barrels on ebay or other website from people doing the same things.
With simple tools you can even do the work yourself, including headspacing.
There...
I have looked extensively. The custom option is generally more expensive than I would like to admit especially once you start going to fluting and other options. I also don't get another receiver to mess with out of it.
Savage discontinued these years ago, and no longer makes a 20" fluted/threaded barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor.
I used a 20" fluted/threaded 308 barrel to make a nice light sub MOA rifle with scope for some longer range shots and wanted to do the same with 6.5 Creedmoor.
I did manage to track one down...
I have some of the Speer 180's that I haven't tried yet. The issue I have heard of with the Hornady is that it is really a 35 whelen bullet and needs the velocity to expand properly.
But definitely appreciate the link. I will use it accordingly
Of those who have managed to get hold of some where did you find them?
Shows? Online?
I have posted a few wanted ads in the day, and someone usually responds, but then never follow up. Nobody wants to give them up, not that I can blame them.
Hard to say with everything being sold out right now.
If you are shooting a lot bulk 5k+ packs of bullets would be in your favor.
Pulled M80's can sometimes be cheaper than buying new.
8mm mauser you would be out of luck as they are almost never bulk, and don't really have sales
I use mostly ramshot powders with the exception of a few mixed in here and there, and they also tend to have increased accuracy nodes near the upper level, which is supposedly due to their ball powder nature.
But with Leverevolution even max loads tend to be well under SAAMI specs due to its...
That explains why they put their own powder on top. Leverevolution should and does beat that velocity in 170gr, they did the same thing in the 150gr load. Now while supposedly Speer bullets have a larger bearing surface area than other bullets in this class which can lead to higher pressure, the...
Also heard good things about speer bullets, about to start loading them for lever guns.
My understanding is that you would want the Flat Base bullets as the Boat Tails are built to expand easier/less robust. I think I read that from speer somewhere.
Of course that may depend on your definition...
