The best 12ga 00 buck for burglars & blackguards...

For practice I'll use any factory loads that are available. I'm not looking for extreme accuracy, just ammo for weapon manipulation and various shooting drills. For HD (when accuracy really matters) I only use federal Flite Control LE132 (also sold as PD132) 00 buck. After many boxes i know...

    Back-up carry gun

To me a 'back up gun' makes sense if you are traveling out of town/ long distance. If you are involved in a shooting, the police will take your primary handgun as evidence, leaving you without a CCW until you return home. Obviously, not ideal for many reasons.

    The next rifle to buy...

I agree with the SKS suggestion. I'll add a Swiss K31.

    Sks vs. 223 autoloader?

My opinion: I have a mini14. It is reliable and shoots all 5.56/223 ammo that I've put into it. Nothing fancy but good enough for defensive and range duties. I had a SU-16. Pretty reliable ate most every 5.56/223 round I put into it. But the trigger guard split at 300 rounds and I wasn't to...

Is this a good ar set-up?

Any of those that you have listed are fine. For your stated purpose you don't need a high priced AR. I like (and have) a Stag. I also think that you'd be fine without optics; iron sights will get the job done and keep weight to a minimum. Also consider a grip change. The AR grip IMHO is too...

Best scope type or sights for 100 yards?

I have a couple of red dots, a 1-4x, and a 3-9x. All will work well within 100 yards. Of the three, I like the 1-4x the best for it's size and weight. I think it also depends upon the type of rifle and what you intend to use it for.

    NAA Mini vs knife

The issue, for me, isn't the distance at which these tools will be used. Nor is it which one makes a bigger hole. Its about which tool can be utilized more efficiently under stress. And to do so under stress, one has to train with that tool. In my training and experience, drawing and firing 5...

Best barrel length for precision AR

I don't hunt.. But My stag 16 inch Barrel is good out to 400 yards on a 12 inch gong. So I don't think you need a heavy or long barrel. What I do think is important, if you want precision, is the quality of the barrel and the twist rate. At typical .223 velocities, a 1:9 twist will stabilize...

    Favorite hunting rifle for non-hunters

I do my hunting at Safeway. My favorite rifle is my 10/22 but I doubt they'd let me bring it inside. :)

    Scopeless

The range is the only place where I foresee a shot out past 150 yards. So my SD rifle is iron sights only. Oddly enough, I have a couple of scoped .22 rifles.

    Which .223?

Mini 14 ranch models come with rings and a proprietary mount on the receiver. Minis are plenty accurate for plinking and HD. Lots of info for them at: http://www.perfectunion.com/vb/ Kel-Tec SU 16 CA model has a picatinney rail and uses AR mags. They are also plenty accurate for plinking and...

Browning Buck Mark vs Ruger 22

I don't mean to complicate matters but have you considered a .22 revolver? It loads easy. I think round count runs from 6 to 10 rounds depending upon mfgr. Easy to clean. And if there is a failure to fire, pull the trigger again. And good luck..
