What to look for in a "shooter's" Garand?

If you want one that will out live you and your children get a CMP Special in either .30-06 or .308. They refurbish the receiver, put a new barrel and stock on it and all the other pieces are either refurbished or replaced with new. I went this way for a shooter and my receiver was made in...

    Commemorative Revolvers: What's the Story???

My son's task force in Iraq had Colt make about 70 1911's with their unit motto and badge engraved on them. They received special serial numbers reflecting their unit. The task force no longer exists. I consider these true commemorative gun even though they wouldn't bring a premium today. 30...

    Help identifying gun

It looks like a version of a Cobray with some type of a folding stock.

Can anyone show me a 45 mm handgun

It's not 45mm but a cousin of mine used one of these as a helicopter pilot in Viet Nam when he was shot down a couple of times. With the buckshot rounds he said it was guaranteed to suppress enemy fire while he and the crew ran the other way.

    Gun Auctions-Sheeeesh!

I was at an auction of a deceased rural FFL yesterday. He had thousands of parts, 1911 slides/barrels, six to a case; many Mauser receivers, barrels, & stocks; gun kits that had saw cut frames, and even disassembled Pythons, some with whole frames, some without frames. 300 handgun cases which...

    Wrangler Vers. Heritage

I picked up a Heritage because of the safety. I shoot wood bees using shot shells and some times I am ready to fire and the little sucker goes out of range and I end up with a cocked gun but no targets. By putting on the safety I can put the gun down until one of the little guys comes back in...

    Auctions and overpaying

Two years ago I was at an auction that had about 50 guns. Most were Taurus, Brynco, Universal and other second tier makers. They had three M-1 carbines, two were Universals and one was an unknown with an optic sight replacing the rear sight so you could not see the maker's name. I looked at...

    Auctions and overpaying

You can get good deals at live auctions but you have to set what your maximum price will be. A couple of auctions in the last month I was able to pick up a nice FN FAL for $600 and three spam cans of "M1 ball on 8 round clips" for $60 a can. Nobody at that auction realized the cans were...

Southern Ohio Gun (SOG) just shut down???

SOG was not the most user friendly company out there in the last few years. They did not like retail sales, especially firearms. I think AIM took a lot of their business with their willingness for customers to stop in and pick up their purchases. Every time I have stopped in their showroom...

Southern Ohio Gun (SOG) just shut down???

I would but I never could find their physical address. It was much easier to buy from Aim surplus.

Any chance you walk over and see if they are closed for good?

Do you usually load your high cap mag's fully at the range?

My EDC mags are loaded fully so why would I practice with something else?

    CMP Philippine return rifle video

For $3.5M ship rental I am betting they could have rented a 747 and flown them direct to Alabama much cheaper.

fiber optic sights vs plain sights

I also prefer tritium fiber optic sights on my self defense guns. My old eyes pick them up quickly and they are accurate enough to take out bad guys at 100 feet. Not good if you are a bullseye shooter for SD day or night they work well. I did have one problem with my TFOs, I tried to take a...

    M1 Commercial Carbines

I have several Ivar Johnson M-1s that have never had any problems. Everything seems to be GI compatible and were built on the Plainfield tooling. They shoot as good if not better than an original Inland I have.
