    Weighing Powder in Cold Temperatures

I’m getting my new reloading bench set up, and it’s in an unheated shop. I realized tonight that cool weather is causing problems with the inexpensive electronic scale I had been using for many years. It is drifting, and it is consistently weighing known objects about 3-4 grains heavy, even...

    Primer Pricing

I haven’t bought primers since I ordered a few thousand small rifle in early 2013. I don’t remember what I paid for those, but I have a couple boxes from 2009 or so sitting around with price tags on them that read $33/1000. Seems like everywhere now has them listed for about $60–$75 (and...

    .45-70 Brass Bright Line

Thanks! That’s sort of what I was thinking, but I wanted to make sure I was on the right track.

    .45-70 Brass Bright Line

I haven’t been reloading for the last few years, and I’m working on a batch of .45-70 for deer season. I’m going slow and being very cautious, since I haven’t done it in so long. The brass I’m working with has been shot twice (3-4 years ago) at lever action pressure levels, and it’s trimmed a...

    PTR Failure to Fire/Feed

For ammunition, I was using Austrian surplus Hirtenberger. I numbered all my mags awhile back, so I know for sure which mag I had the problems with most recently. I sat down and compared that magazine vs my others, and I noticed a couple of the things. I think that may be the culprit on the...

    PTR Failure to Fire/Feed

Hi, all, I’ve got a PTR-91 GI that I’ve had a few problems with. I sent it back to the factory a few months back, where they fixed a problem with the front sight (inaccuracy wasn’t my fault, for once!), but now I’ve noticed another issue. I was shooting my rifle this weekend, and I had a...

    Glock 20 case bulge

All the rounds through the gun have been factory ammo, except for fifty rounds of a warm load of Longshot in new Starline brass. The smiles have all been on Armscor ammo, which I would attribute to lower-quality brass on a Glock feed ramp. The other factory ammo through the gun has been either...

    Glock 20 case bulge

It's a Gen 4. That's why I'm wondering if my chamber is a little generous. The smiles I've had were obviously due to the feed ramp. But the case as a whole seems to expand an awful lot.

    Glock 20 case bulge

I am sizing them as far as my die will let me. I am not using a bulge buster. My concern is more that the brass appears to have expanded so much. I know I can drop a few bucks on a bulge buster to make the cases look right, but I am afraid I would be asking for a case failure.

    Glock 20 case bulge

I got a G20 a few months ago. The pistol shoots like a dream, without a single failure in the 1,000 or so rounds through it so far, but it sure is expensive to feed. I reload for all my other guns and I am set up with dies for the 10mm, but after resizing a few cases, I just can't see how...

    G20 Smiles with Factory Ammo

I got a Glock 20 Gen 4 about six weeks ago. I just put my 200th round through it. It's my first Glock. The first 100 rounds were factory ammo—half SIG and half Remington. The Remington ammo seemed like fairly typical downloaded 10mm. The velocities claimed on the SIG box would indicate a...

    A Shame

Somewhat Relieved Well, I ought not go shooting off at the mouth without verifying what I've been told. Apparently, Tennessee passed a law a couple years ago requiring that all seized weapons either be sold or used for law enforcement purposes. Now, I need to see if I can figure out where...

    A Shame

Chattanooga. A lot of the rural jurisdictions surrounding Chattanooga auction, but I had a court officer claim to me that Chattanooga scraps. Here's hoping he's wrong.

    A Shame

I represent folks accused of crimes. I had a case this week where a gal was alleged to have been in a car with a felon and some handguns. According to the arrest warrant, the officers recovered "a Colt Commander 9mm, an Astra .380, and a German Luger 9mm." Unless they were stolen and the true...
