Myth Busting Lube vs No-Lube and Bullet Setback

When I do .223, I actually do make sure I get some in the neck. The way I do it, I lay 10 to 15 cases on a rag with the walls touching, spray one quick spray at the neck shoulder region, then another on the body. Roll all cases 180 degrees and repeat. Then I roll them back and forth to remove...

    Powder for .308

Went out today and tested both Varget and 4064. Both did well, but 4064 did slightly better. Heading back out tomorrow to narrow it down further.

    Powder for .308

My understanding is AR-Comp is RL-15 but is better with temp variations. For 223 I found it to be ok, but I found better powders for my rifle and bullet choices. I may try it on a lighter 308 168gr bullet for my Savage.

    Powder for .308

Just curious, but why? From my limited experience, most of the powders I have found to be the least temp sensitive and most accurate are all stick powders. So far my favorite powders are Benchmark, IMR8208XBR, and Varget.

    Powder for .308

I actually want 2 different powders. I also load for .223 and at some point will do 9mm, .40, and 6.5 CM (will be my next gun purchase). For me loading and trying different things is the funnest part, for my 223 I have a bunch of different loads. For my .308 will probably only do maybe 3 or 4...

    Remington vs. Savage

I own the Savage you have listed, I can confirm the mag sucks. Knowing what i know, I would still buy the rifle again. Most times it 1/2 moa with 175 FGGM and has a pretty good factory trigger.

    Powder for .308

I actually wound up grabbing 2lbs of IMR4064 at Gander Mountain. With the going out of business sale and $20 off coupon, I got them for about $24 each. Only problem I see with it is load data is all over the place, but from what i understand it's very accurate. So I will be testing both Varget...

    Powder for .308

How is 4064 with temps? it's available pretty much everywhere here. I'm going to do a load from 41.9 to 44.6 this weekend and pickup something else next week.

    Powder for .308

It's a new rifle and load. I have shot factory 175 GMM SMKs and factory 168 Black Hills SMKs, it like the 175's a little better which chrono'ed about 2550ish. So, that is what I'm aiming for, for this first load so that I don't have to keep buying factory. I don't have my notebook in front, but...

    Powder for .308

What kind of velocities are you getting out of Varget and H4895?

    Powder for .308

Look for a powder for a .308 load. I like to have 2 different powders in case one powder is unavailable. Specifically I want to be about 2500-2500 FPS, the bullet is a 175 SMK, FGGM brass, CCI LR primer. Rifle is 20" bolt-gun. I am starting by using what powder I have on hand, I tried AR-COMP...

    Savage 10 FCP-SR issues

Outside of the mag issue, it's an outstanding rifle. It's stupid accurate and with an Alamo 4 Star (ZRODelta) muzzle break, it only kicks slightly more than my AR. If you concentrate on really locking the back side of the mag it's not too bad. Just don't wimpy install the mag and that will help.

    Savage 10 FCP-SR issues

I can tell you mine is terrible as well. It will usually load the first round, but after that the back of the mag will drop ever so slightly making it so the next round won't grab. I have to physically lock the mag back up and try and chamber the next round. The problem is not just the mag but...

    Runout after bullet seating?

Good to know about the stamp, I actually have mine facing up. For sizing, I don't expand anything; I simply size down the neck to .001 less than a loaded cartridge and bump the shoulder's back about .001-.002. That is all that's done other than the body. I don't\haven't neck turned so maybe that...

    Runout after bullet seating?

OK, have a quick question or 2. I just started loading for my .308 Savage and have a question about run-out. I am loading 1 fired FC brass from the GMM rounds I purchased and fired. I Full length sized and bushing neck sided using a Redding die with the expander ball removed. Anyway of the 50-60...
