    Range report: 1858 Remington

Nice work Great shooting! And 12 yards is a good range for that weapon. Deadly for close-in combat. Thanks for sharing. It's always a good thing to get to the range. Here in Northern VA it's supposed to be 80 degrees tomorrow -- I may try to steal away to the range and fire up my Hawken...

    Range Report: Colt Navy

Load Some of my cartridges had only 15 grains of 3f goex because I originally was going to have my 13 year old son shoot. But he has since "graduated" to a Marlin 795 and no longer wants to shoot blackpowder. So I shot off the lower load cartridges I made for him. The other cartridges had...

    Range Report: Colt Navy

Got out to the range this morning with my Pietta Colt Navy. All shots from 25 yards standing. I used homemade rolled cartridges - most had 15 grains of Goex 3F with a little cream of wheat. Used .376 round balls. A pic of my target is attached. Since I had not shot this gun in a while, I...

    Shooting my Pietta Smith Carbine

Have not posted in a long time. Got out to the range this morning to shoot my Pietta Smith Carbine. Shot 25 shots seated at 50 yards and 25 shots seated at 100 yards. Every shot except for one was on paper. I used 29 grains of Goex 2f in a plastic cartridge with a .515 lubed smith bullet...

Range report: brand new Pietta Colt Army

Thanks. That is what I thought. I will bring the load down to 20 grains of Goex 3F and add a little more Cream of Wheat filler to my homemade cartridges.

Range report: brand new Pietta Colt Army

Does anyone know if the nickel frame means that it is brass, plated with nickel, or nickel all the way through? If it is nickel, should I put loads similar to brass frame (ie no more than 20 grains of 3F goex?)

Range report: brand new Pietta Colt Army

Frame Frame is nickel, according the specs. Magnet did not stick, guess I will lower future loads to 20 grains of 3F Goex. Will add more cream of wheat filler in my homemade cartridges. Yes, she is pretty - but cleans up much easier than my other revolvers...

Range report: brand new Pietta Colt Army

Finally got out to the range with my brand new Pietta Colt Army -- nickel plated with faux ivory grips. I put 48 bullets through it -- all pre-made paper cartridges using 3F Goex, a little cream of wheat and .454 Hornady round ball. The gun shot a tad high-- but only an inch or two. My...

Back out to the range w/Smith Carbine

Plastic cases I use the plastic. I have a brass casing but it gets jammed too often. The plastic ones are pretty durable and almost never get jammed. I get them from S&S Firearms. www.ssfirearms.com/

Back out to the range w/Smith Carbine

I was able to get back out to the range with my Pietta Smith Carbine. Fired off about 55 rounds -- half at 50 yards, half at 100 yards. I was using plastic tubes with 30 grains of Goex 2F and a .515 Smith conical greased with SPG lube. The target below was shot at 100 yards. All shots were...

    22 LR Eley Tenex

Hello friends. I have been shooting for the last past eight years, but exclusively blackpowder. I recently bought a Marlin 795 for my 12-year old son to shoot. As you all know, it's darn hard to find .22 LR ammo these days. Can anyone tell me if ".22 LR Eley Tenex EPS Lead Flat Nose...

    Range report: Smith Carbine

I use 2f Goex powder and I keep the shells nose down (flash hole side up) in a box designed for shot gun shells. So it's not really a problem with the powder spilling out of the flash hole.
