    The JC Higgins Model 31

That's a beautiful pair! I'm still working on my model 31. Got a new butt plate but it doesn't fit right. May have to go shopping again! Always looking for another, but prices are sky high!

Is Rock Island/Armscor doing it right?

I purchased a Citadel M1911 A1 9mm yesterday at Rural King $349! Cleaned, oiled and put away until I can get to the range. I can't wait! I'm new to 1911's and will lurk for some time before I chime in on things..... BTW, the sales person, as I was comparing the Citadel to a Ruger SR1911...

J.C. Higgins Model 31 without sling....

Thanks! That looks brass, right? How about the butt plate and pistol grip plate are they brown or black? The butt plate for my gun is missing, but the pistol grip plate is intact and appears to be black as coal. However, all the replacements from Numrich are milk-chocolate brown???? I can't...

J.C. Higgins Model 31 without sling....

I have just refurbished my Model 31--it didn't come with the retractable sling--but it has a notch in the stock where the sling would have come out, if it had one. I've seen some pics of some Model 31's with a brass plate or plug there. Unfortunately no one seems to have this part--Numrich...

    Where in HI?

Yes, I was planning on him actually making the purchase. I realize I can't buy a gun in a state in which I'm not a resident. Looks like this may not be the year to do guns & ammo (my favorite Redneck Christmas gifts) for him. Maybe we can do some shopping and buy when he's transferred back to...

    Where in HI?

My son is active-duty Coast Guard in Hawaii--Barber's Point Airstation and we're going out for Christmas. I'd like to get him a handgun for Christmas, but would rather not buy something that I think he'd like and take it out, would rather shop on the island, but have no clue as to where to find...

    What's with Natchez SS?

I picked up 2 boxes (the limit) on 325 rnd box of Federal Match. Caught it on gunbot, ordered it immediately and with a fair amount of shipping, got it with no problem. Wish I had ordered 2 more in wife's name! I guess some of these places get so many calls, they get frustrated and snipe at...

    Winchester Model 1903 .22

Years and years ago, my mom gave me the gun her dad (my granddad) always called "her" gun--a Model 1903 Winchester .22 automatic. I've shot it a few times over the years, but probably not in the last 12-15. Last time I shot it, I cleaned it and put it away. I had 8 rounds in one box and 2...

    The JC Higgins Model 31

Ok, I found out some model 31's had retractable slings and some didn't. So, what mystery piece goes in the notch on the stock where the sling slot is on the sling-equipped ones? Wow, that was a mouthful! I'm working on refinishing the stock now but there's obviously a piece missing. I...

    JC Higgins Model 31

Thanks! I'm working on the stock and forend now. Since mine does not have the retractable sling in the stock, there appears to been a metal plate or something there where the slot was for the sling. I can't find any pics of it. Anyone know what it looks like or where I could find one?

    JC Higgins Model 31

Inherited this gun, not sure when, but finally pulled it out of the closet to clean it up and make it serviceable again. Mechanically seems sound, had a gunsmith check it out for me. Cosmetically, it's what a 56 year old gun looks like, which is not too bad. What it's missing is the butt for...

    The JC Higgins Model 31

I'm new to thr and literally stumbled across this thread. I have a Model 31 for which the bolt and trigger assemblies are soaking in mineral spirits as I type. What a nasty little gun! I inherited it some years ago and it's sat in a closet gathering more dust until I decided to get it out and...
