Leaving CT for TX (and never going back!)

I'll definitely be checking that out @bullnettles, thanks for the heads up. I might miss the forests sometimes, but definitely not going to miss the sub zero temperatures during deer season.

@twmaster thank you for the welcome! Already got the pickup crossed off the list, I'll be driving it down. As you said, I'm not a born Texan either, but definitely got out of the North as fast as I could, what a great feeling!

All, thank you for all of the warm welcomes to TX and the advice--all noted! Can't wait to get there over the next couple of months(just finalizing some works stuff). Hope to meet up once I get settled in Austin.

Much agreed Wingman! I've waited 28 years to get to a place like TX to leave the liberals behind.

Thanks for the directions @Midwest-- sounds like the best route to freedom, I mean Texas.

Leaving CT for TX (and never going back!)

We've been down to Austin a handful of times in the past and noticed similar stuff about different neighborhoods, thanks for the heads up, really helpful to have local knowledge ahead of time. Been out hunting with my father-in-law from Houston and said the same thing to myself. Hunting is a...

Leaving CT for TX (and never going back!)

@JumboJimbo I honestly believe I was just born in the wrong area of the country. Huge hunter, fisherman, atv rider etc. Married a Texan in the northeast and now it's time to go south, where life is good! Super glad to hear you are in the same area, looking forward to getting to know...

Thanks JumboJimbo, looking forward to getting down to TX! We'll be somewhere outside of Austin, work is in Austin. I'm not planning on missing the northeast either, it's just gets stranger by the minute up here.

Thanks Midwest! Yes, I completely agree, I will have to avoid NJ all together and take 84 into PA. From PA to TX should be pretty simple though, right? It's literally getting out of the northeast that is always the issue with these types of moves.

Leaving CT for TX (and never going back!)

Hi All, The time has finally come to move down to TX and I'm trying to figure out some logistics for relocating. Any wisdom is appreciated! 1: From what I've been reading, having a moving company take your safe and locked long guns shouldn't be an issue, as long as they aren't going down...

Is NYC Honoring FOPA at Its Airports?

I think I might just avoid this whole situation entirely, eventhough it's a long gun I would be checking.

Is NYC Honoring FOPA at Its Airports?

Agreed, from the looks of things, it seems like handguns seem to cause more issues than any long gun legally declared and checked.

Is NYC Honoring FOPA at Its Airports?

I've also heard of this, but how about on the return flight from Anywhere USA back to an NYC airport? When I arrive, can I claim my bag, go to my car and then travel home(remaining in transit the entire time)? Or is that handcuff worthy too?

    Long Gun Travel Rules(NY Area)

Thanks for the reply. That was my worry that it would be considered not licensed in NYC, even though I would have the paperwork with me from CT. Ahh, what a pain. I'm looking into shipping it to myself, straight to Texas.
