Yep. Too much in a single coat. Spread it thin. A run sets you back at least two steps. Or even worse if you had stained the original wood you could mess up the even staining while working out a run. Runs are a real time killer when you consider what you have to do to fix it. Heavy coats...

A rifle next. An accurate bolt action rimfire to start. I'd recommend a CZ 452. Develop some marksmanship on the cheap and maybe some small game hunting too. Then move up to center fire like a .243 Win or something in that range. Easy to shoot, accurate and ammo readily available.

Nice looking rifle. Don't recognize the scope brand so I can't comment on that. Not an ADL with those nice grip and forearm caps. I think it would be a fair trade.

My 6 BR cycles fine since I use a single shot adapter. Accurized action with 26" 9 twist Hart varmint taper on H&S thumbhole stock. Not a real expensive build. Just a fun gun. Best so far has been 0.320", 5 shot at 200 yds. Haven't shot any at 100yds in months. Sub 1/2 MOA almost too easy.

I think local markets are kind of brand loyal most places. I talked to my buddy that works at a local gun shop and he said that CZ's just haven't sold that well. Had a few and sold them all but not quick enough for them to want to re-stock. I have seven of them and a lot of folks ouu and ahh...

I've seen this happen twice to a buddy's LR 308. He was using his handloaded ammo. After clearing the jam he tried some of mine and it did the same thing. Had to clear the jam again. He then tried with another buddy's handloads that were loaded with factory new and primed Remington casings...

I have a custom build in 6 BR and it's a nice shooter. Lots of bullets to choose from. I would recommend a 8 twist if your looking to go long with the rifle.
