Stranger (Process Server) At the Door

Sounds like it's time to sit down with your wife an establish protocols for the home. I've been working on this with my wife, but it's hard to get her to buy in. We live in a very safe town, which is great, but also makes it difficult to get my wife to take home security seriously.

suggestions for a truck/trunk long gun to keep there.

Like others here, I also question the practicality of a trunk gun. If you already CCW a handgun, in what situation are you going to bypass your handgun, go to the trunk and dig out your "trunk gun," then turn and fight? I don't think that scenario is going to fly in any court of law. If...

    Bullet weight vs. Recoil

Shooting a Springfield XDM 5.25" barrel (32oz unloaded). My 230gr load is 5.3gr of Unique - I haven't built up a load for the 200gr bullet yet, but I'll be using the same powder.

    Bullet weight vs. Recoil

After 5 or so years of using moly coated lead 230 RN bullets in my XD45, I've finally exhausted my supply of components and I'm looking to restock. I want to get back into IDPA, and maybe even dabble in USPSA, so I need to take power factor into consideration when I work up my next load. For...

Securing your collection: Safes, GPS, Cameras, etc

11 replies and only 2 people mention insurance... Typical. You can spend a fortune and turn your home into Fort Knox, but all the alarms and safes in the world only slow a thief marginally. If you give a thief enough time and enough incentive, they'll get into anything. So give yourself a...

What percent of the guns you bought do you still have?

The "value" of my gun collection has not changed much over the last decade - if I buy a new gun, I usually sell one to fund it. If I sell a gun, the cash stays in a separate fund to pay for the next purchase. Turnover is maybe 2-3 guns a year...

Either Always Carry Or Never Carry

The moment you start justifying when you "need" your firearm and when you "don't needs" your firearm, you start down a very slippery slope. I can see the post shooting interview: Officer/lawyer: Do you always carry a gun? You: Not always. O/L: Why don't you carry a gun all the time? You...

To be a Good Samaritan or not

Typical internet tough guy response. You want to risk your life and your family's well being to jump into a situation I got myself into, you go right ahead. I'm smarter than you are.

How would you have handled this one

Has anyone seen the video just released of the "beating." Doesn't show much, just the victim on the ground and someone shewing off the bikers, but I did notice something particularity interesting: the guy's car door was wide open. And in one clip of the original video you see one of the bikers...

    shots fired on my block.

Here's a situation that haunts me. I hear shots fired, or some sort of commotion in the neighborhood. I secure the house, move away from the windows, grab my firearm. The police, for whatever reason, kick in my door and find me sitting the middle of the living room with a shotgun in my hands...

One More Example of Why it is Essential to Know the Law

Anyone who owns a gun should take a course on deadly force - it's simply irresponsible not to.

Would you shoot an intruder if you didn't have to?

There are plenty of people here who've said it better than I could. Plenty of idiots here too. I'll let you decide which is which...

Depreciation/used prices on everything gun related

Life span is part of it. What's the lifespan of a TV? What's the life span of a car? What's the life span of a 1911? My TV is 3 years old. My car is 10 years old. My 1911 is 70 years old. Guess which is the most reliable...

    A fool and his money!

You've quit and you're still overstepping the boundaries of your (former) position. Let it go.

To be a Good Samaritan or not

As Rick Blaine would say, I stick my neck out for no one. My responsibility is to myself and my family, that's it. Having a gun doesn't change that. In fact, it makes me even more cautious. Too many tough guys treat their gun like a badge.
