..thanks for the input. I'm going to look at how I assembled the slide lock with the two springs that sit on the hammer. Do both springs sit on top of the boss on the hammer, or does each spring straddle the boss on the hammer?

...I got it last night. The breech bolt needed to be set all the way forward, locked in place. That's all it was. The bad news is that the slide is staying locked after the gun is fired (not live, just a snap cap). I need to press the slide lock lever and then the slide jumps back about 1/4"...
