    going down a staircase

Zach S Sorry, but I don't understand this. I agree, going upstairs is a dangerous process. However, if your master bedroom WAS upstairs, you could post up with your weapon and cover the upstairs. All of the aspects working against YOU going up the stairs work FOR you when the BG has...

    going down a staircase

I've had positive results by tossing a flash bang or frag grenade down. Of course, this was in Call of Duty, YMMV in real life. Stairs are BAD JUJU. Slice the corner as much as you can, remember the angles, pray a lot. Or just press "R2" and frag grenade 'em :-)

Words of wisdom from a local police chief

If I were intercepted by any non-uniformed officer flashing their badges, I'd ask to see them. I'd copy down every piece of information off of them, then ask to see their drivers license or other state issued ID. I'd do the same with that. I'd them tell them to have a great day and call my...

Specific Hypothetical: Luby's or bank robbery type situation: CNS or Vitals shot?

If I really felt that his death was the only acceptible solution, I'd probably start shooting him, COM, while moving towards him. I know it sounds antithetical to everything we've been taught in defensive schools, but I've got 15 rounds of 10mm to work with. I'll "distract" him with the "only"...

Defense, Escape, and Evasion -- Meth Labs and Pot Fields

Also, it might be better to hole up somewhere in a garbage-bag and Mylar blanket hooch than trying to go back to your car. If they follow you and see your license plate, it's just taking the game out of the woods and into your "real" life.

From "Anti" to Shooter, I am so proud!

Very well written book. It's the audiobook I give to my friends who are fence sitters on being prepared. Usually I'll give them that audiobook and a few of The Survival Podcasts on another CD. Lots of them have long commutes, changes their ride when it becomes educational.

Defense, Escape, and Evasion -- Meth Labs and Pot Fields

Because, it's there! :-) Some hikers like to go really far into the back country and not have to deal with tourists ;-) I put myself into that group. I'll look for a place that meets my criterion, using either real maps, my GPS maps or a mapping program, then I'll make my own trail there...

Defense, Escape, and Evasion -- Meth Labs and Pot Fields

As for the smell of a marijuana field; if the males have been culled and the females are flowering, it will REEK of reefer. I've... uh... "heard of" people who go walking around .. uhm... "a random plot of pot" and come back with their clothes reeking of it still. A gooey, female plant...

Defense, Escape, and Evasion -- Meth Labs and Pot Fields

I carry a small bag, smaller than a backpack, wherever I go. If I'm carrying a backpack, this bag is EASILY accessible from the main compartment. It's got the basics of survival for a day or so (minus water), a few spare mags... I won't bother to get into the whole list here, but the pack is a...

Apparently riot gun for wilderness survival = fail

Fifty liters of fuel? Are you bringing your four wheeler? ;-) My summer alpine day pack weights about 14lbs, my summer overnighter alpine pack is about 35, and my WINTER pack weights "a damn crapload", because I hate being cold at night, so I bring a little folding stove with me, and an...

Columnist learns to shoot...Read all about it!

It's funny hearing the "Fear and ascribe morality to inanimate objects" crowd talk about firearms Hoplo #1 - "I actually went SHOOTING! A HANDGUN even! I think it was a Glock or a nine millimeter or a forty five. It was so loud! I probably shot a whole CLIP through it!" Me - "I'm...

Apparently riot gun for wilderness survival = fail

I really encourage those of you that are into survival to look into Ron Hood of Hoods Woods. I've no stake in the company, I don't get paid or compensated if you purchase his DVD's, but I can tell you that they are top quality and above all INFORMATIVE, TEACHING tools. You'll hear Ron crack...

    Firearms in Popular Music

Oh yes, those people that emulate Micheal Myers are all over the place. Why, I think some famous celebrity "of his ilk" just had a negligent cutting stuffing his FO'TY CALLIBRR Machete into the band of his sweatpants. Of course, not true. Gang culture is literally 80% of what's wrong with...

    Busted!

Jorg- Usually if I see someone carrying I'll scream "GUY WITH A GUN! GUY WITH A GUN" and point at them. ;-) j/k, of course. I OC most of the summer and CC in the winter, just based on how the seasons are and how I'm dressed. If someone notices, I don't really care. It's like someone...

    Firearm laws you do support....

Good, I'm not. I had thought up numerous witty replies to that, but rbernie and TR covered them quite well. I don't want to change the specific wording of the GCA, I want all galdarned gun control laws DESTROYED, forever, other than the law sthat punish people for their actions. To...
