Would it be more worth it to hunt the Archery and/or Muzzle loader season? Are they a little less crowded?

Remington 700... Is it still good in 2017??

The Ruger American is good rifle for a great price. You can't go wrong with that. I'm a personal fan of the Remingtons, as my grandpa gave me a Rem 742 before he passed away. So - like you - the sentimental value is there. And mine's been reliable over the years. Kept it clean and I haven't...

What's up with Cableas & Bass Pro

All the latest news speaks otherwise. The hangup was the Cabela's Credit Card, which will now be aquired by Capitol One. http://www.daytondailynews.com/business/bass-pro-shops-closer-officially-buying-cabela/R0QzqOE4T2wxRtpHmGkU7I/

    Elk Hunting Newbie

My non-profit salary isn't enough money to spend $6K on a hunting trip, so it'll be mostly a DIY trip. However, my wife's cousin lives in Colorado Springs, so we'll be tagging along with him. I've talked to him a little about this stuff, but I like to hear from more people on their experience...

What's up with Cableas & Bass Pro

In my experience (albeit, limited), those stores aren't exclusively over-priced. I've gotten some great deals at Cabelas & Gander throughout the years. Their clothing always seems to be way over-priced, but many other items I've purchased seem fairly priced. I've gotten great prices on ammo over...

Can camo be worn during archery and muzzle-loader - like in WI?

Thanks for all the input. Lots to get ready for, for sure!:) What is the point system like? Is it worth it to buy points in advance, or is it relatively easy to draw a tag?

How are mom and pop gun shops still around?

Like always, I think it depends on the location. I've dealt with several different local shops. Some have been awesome (both service and pricing) and others have been way over-priced. I'm a big fan of supporting local, so if I can do it, I will. The local shops I've seen usually offer a good...

What is your take on the used gun market?

Its tough. I've bought several of my guns new, and trying to sell them is a bear. Selling on consignment at a local store sucks because of the fee the shop gets. So you automatically want to jack the price up, but then nobody wants to buy them. I've been trying to sell a couple handguns for...

EDC/CCW: how many rounds do YOU carry?

I'll echo the sentiment of LoneGoose. The majority of encounters are ended in a few shots. It's highly unlikely you're going to run into a gang of outlaws (aside from the south-side of Chicago). Or have to fight off a horde of zombies. I carry 11 rounds total. 6 in the gun + 1 extra mag. Or my...

What's up with Cableas & Bass Pro

Saw an article today about Cabelas selling to Bass Pro - but it's the first I've heard of anything in months. Is this thing happening? And will Cabela's stores just be re-purposed as BPS, or just kept as Cabelas? Anybody know anything about this?

    Handing them down early

I am not a father yet, so I can't speak to that side of it. However, I have been on the receiving end of it. My grandpa gave away most of his guns before he died - including his hunting rifle, which he gave to me. It's not a perfect gun, for sure, but it meant a lot to me as a kid. My father...

Handguns are more convenient for home defense vs Rifles and Shotguns?

I like a little of everything. A couple handguns placed strategically - and a couple long guns as well. A handgun is definitely easier though. In small quarters, maneuverability is key. As with everything, though, it's all personal preference. Do what suits you.

What is the last gun that you bought?

Smith & Wesson Bodyguard Revolver, in .38 (w/laser). Bought it for my wife - and now she doesn't like it. Go figure. Nice gun though. Great for CCW.

Has anyone every done anything INCREDIBLY nice/generous for you with regards to firearms?

Jokingly told a sibling that I wanted a new pistol for Christmas - never believing they'd give it to me. Sure enough - on Christmas morning, I opened up a Smith & Wesson Model 620. I just looked at it dumbfounded - couldn't believe it was real.
