West German SIG P220: school me

I am a big fan of SIGs and have several different models of the older German made ones with stamped carbon steel slides. They are well-made and very accurate right out of the box. I haven't been in the market recently so I don't know current prices, but I personally would be wary of a...

    Sig p225

Congratulations! You can get a better idea of the build year of your P225 from the two-letter proof date code that should be on the bottom front slide chin of your pistoll and following the link provided by Ignition Override to decode it.

    Sig 299-22 ?

The gun looks a lot like a P229 Classic 22 that was designed so it could be converted to centerfire calibers using Caliber X-Change Kits. Unfortunately SIG discontinued these kits. Is there a label on the box or case? The model number would normally be on one of the labels. The P229 Classic...

Sig P228. Anything in particular I should know?

I wonder if a P228 slide would fit onto a P226 frame with no modifications except for maybe a locking insert change? You would have your wish. BTW the prototype that WVsig mentioned was a chopped P226 frame with a P225 slide and marked as a P226C. This was done at the SIGARMS Tysons Corner...

Sig P228. Anything in particular I should know?

Update: That prototype P228 was purchased by a diehard P228 fan on that forum.

Sig P228. Anything in particular I should know?

I remember seeing a thread about that prototype on one of the gun forums that included photos. It must have been posted by that guy. I seem to recall there was a debate as to whether the pistol was a fake and it was a scam. What I can't remember is if that gun was eventually sold to someone...

Sig P228. Anything in particular I should know?

Went back to look for the P225 reference earlier in this thread but couldn't find it. I must have either read it in another forum or I dreamed it up. Apologies for bringing it up.

Sig P228. Anything in particular I should know?

Since it looks like no one has answered yet, yes you are correct. The "Exeter NH" is an import mark for those made in Germany with the German proof marks, normally located on the bottom front chin of the slide. FYI there are "Made in W Germany" marked slides on post unification guns made...

    Your Funnest Pistol or Revolver

My Ruger Mark II Target MK-512 with a 5 1/2" bull barrel. It is accurate with no recoil, reliable, and the ammo is cheap.

Question for a Sig P226 expert

I thought the desirable Electroless Nickel finish on SIG pistols was done by Klein who did the "factory" nickel plating for SIG in the '90s.

Question for a Sig P226 expert

AFAIK SIG did not make any stainless steel frame guns in 1995 and the only stainless slide (marked "STAINLESS" on the slide) pistols were the P229 until 1998 or 1999.

    Sig P229 legacy

The M11-A1 is basically a 9mm P229 with no rail, phosphated internals, and SRT standard, so yes, the P229 is as good as the M11-A1. If you are actually talking about a P229 Legacy, then it will have an old-school Legacy slide that has the short external extractor and the half-height serrations...

    Sig 228 opinions

That's OK. It was the OP who brought it back to life. Besides the P228 is timeless.;)

    BDA Sig 220 old style

Could you post a pic? I always thought the Browning .45 BDA was just a re-branded SIG P220 with its own set of serial numbers. All P220s I am aware of have guide rods and standard recoil springs.

    Sig P6 Light Strikes

What weight Wolff mainspring is he using? The P6 normally uses a 28lb while the P225 uses a 24lb spring. I have a 22lb Wolff mainspring in my P6, but have heard of people using as light as a 19lb spring with no light strikes. I would suspect it is an issue with the firing pin and/or channel...
