France’s answer to terrorism: The Law of Suspects

I agree with you on the refugee topic, and generally most of what you said. Part of our problem is that our "sheepdog" culture has become a bloated parody of itself that has traded a good education in civics and history for a homogenous narrative popularized by wannabes and fat guys in easy...

What load for deer? 16 ga full choke

Thanks for the responses, guys. Yes, I'm allowed to use a rifle, but I'd like to do some hunting with this old shotgun. So, I'm interested in the optimal setup for shells. Good info. Thanks.

What load for deer? 16 ga full choke

So, I have a 16 with 28" barrel and full choke. It's an old bolt action mossy. So, I'm interested in maybe using it on deer this year, and what load might be best. There's all kinds of stuff about slug vs full choke on the interwebz. So, I'm asking. I hunt in areas without a lot of...

    Axe sharpener

Yeah. They're okay. But you have to be the kind of axe user who keeps his edge keen because they're more of a touch up piece. If you own a cheaper axe with so-so steel, and don't keep it sharp, mind what you chop, or use it for splitting, you probably want to stick with a file.

    Rope Dart

I think it would be interesting if you were to do some testing with this and the 3 angle knife you've linked. Penetration tests might be interesting to see on mockups or carcasses, different thicknesses of dress (denim, winter coats, etc) Maybe it wasn't a military weapon, but it would...

    It begins.

You don't even have to build a closet trap. You can buy a simple target bag, or build one if you prefer, and just shoot that. As far as strength goes, I would take the bow and draw without an arrow nocked, then hold for 10 seconds, as many repetitions as you can for 2 sets with each arm. You...

    Fletching

Yep. You can also develop some nice life skills by doing things like building your own arrows.

    crossbow control

Yeah, that's pretty lame. But I guess Northern Ireland has its own cultural problems and outlook on weapons. The royals have been holding people underfoot for a long time over there.

    Recurve bow - limbs

It should go back. There shouldn't be any movement discernible when the limbs are torqued down.

    Need a folding saw

Yeah, I just don't like the biomechanics of folding saws, and I find that any deadfall (we don't burn greenwood in campfires) small enough for a saw can either be limbed with a stomp or snapped in a nearby tree's crotch, broken over my knee, etc. rather than sawn. Anything too big for that...

    Need a folding saw

Sven is the intersection of affordability, packable design, and a saw that actually works well.

    Defend the large hunting knife!

Yep. Nice post. I'm never going to be in a war as an infantry man again, at 41 years old. I don't give a crap about combat loads. I'll let guys in the ranks worry about that stuff. My one and only worry is about functionality when I'm doing something like backcountry hunting or backpacking...

    Camp Chopper

right on. And when you're talking about backpacking, not dayhiking or car camping, the ounces count. I find the utility of a hawk or a hatchet to be really worth the extra ounces over one of the big fixed blades. But I'm partial to axe tools, I'll admit.

    Found in a old safe

If you have a close family member with Alzheimer's, a passel of stupid old knives is very low on your priority list. These things are just chunks of steel, after all. Let's not beat the guy up over something so ephemeral and transitory.

    Made my first knife!

    Nice job, man. :)
