    Swabbing between shots

Yeah, .20" patches would make it difficult. :) Some competition shooters use larger than normal balls and patch combos that require using a mallet to seat the ball. I use a thick patch moistened by mouth and get good results at 75 yards.

    Firing an original Springfield 1861

My Lee .575 minie ball mold casts the ball a little large, it's really hard to fit into the barrel of my Euroarms '63 repro. I use 50 grains of FFg/Pyrodex RS/Triple 7 with a patched roundball, they all have the same accuracy.

    Source for cheap lead

I bought some plumber's lead at Ferguson Enterprises in 5 lb pigs. It's soft enough to scratch it with my fingernail, so I'm assuming it's pure or nearly pure. Not all of their stores have it in stock, they move them around from store to store. The price isn't fixed, either, at first it was...

Where To Find Powder & Caps

Powder, Inc. sells lots as small as 5 lbs, you can mix and match the different powders, so you could get 2 lbs of Triple 7, a pound of Swiss, a pound of Olde Eynsford, and another pound of whatever.

    Tap-o-caps and Pietta nipples

I bet the problem is caused by using Pyrodex. Try it with Triple 7 or regular BP before you drill anything.

    Tips for Making Grease

Watch out for the salt and other chemicals they use to cure it. It might cause rust. I use pure lard as the base for my lubes, sometimes you have to watch out for salt in it, too.

    Pyrodex. Good,bad or Ugly?

Real blackpowder tastes a lot better. :)

An explanation about my video posting decision

I've subscribed to you on youtube and "liked" you on facebook, but I don't mind seeing a links to your videos on here or everywhere else, because they're good stuff. If they're not posted here, a lot of people would miss seeing them. I would never base anything I do off of what I read or see on...

Ran into an issue loading metalic cartriges for ROA conversion cylinder.

My R&D cylinders for my Remington and my Ruger will take cartridges loaded with 200 grain round nose (Lee mold), 200 grain flat nose (Lee mold), or store bought 255 grain flat nose with no problems.

A good way to clean your shotgun after firing BP shells

I hope you have a scrap of leather to pad your vise. When I clean my BP rifles, I skip the soap. After filling the barrel with boiling water 3 or 4 times and letting it drain out the nipple, the barrel shines. Great idea about the 20 gauge hull barrel plug. +1 on the cork and fiber wadding...

The dreaded "What do you think it's worth?" question

Thanks, all. At least I know I won't be cheating him. His father-in-law was going to use it in CAS, I assume the barrels are good, but I don't know if he was going to use it as-is to compete or use it as a project gun. He's going to go back in a week or so, I'll ask if he can't bring it back...

The dreaded "What do you think it's worth?" question

About a year ago, my friend's father-in-law died. He was a gun dealer in the next state. My friend and his wife and his mother-in-law have been going through stuff to make sure what's there and not there. He doesn't know anything about guns at all. He went in with his iPhone and took pictures...

    Thanks for the civility

You're too classy to be on Reddit. A lot of kids post using poor grammar and spelling so they can maintain an illusion of being "street" as if someone sitting behind a computer monitor 20 hours a day even sees a street. Cyberbullies need to meet some real bullies to straighten them out.

    Quick change latch

They have a note in the kit's description that says they'll machine a slot in the old style knurled base pin for $10 +$2 postage. That was the first thing I thought when I saw it, too.

A new miracle cleaning tool for C&B revolvers?

A couple of months ago I found some really neat pipe cleaners at Walgreens, in fact they were the only pipe cleaners they had behind the counter. Bryn Maur Ream-N-Klean. They're regular cotton pipe cleaners, but they have short lengths of monofilament woven with the cotton, so they're very...
