How about an old H&R? There are scads of 'em on Gunbroker for cheap and they're built like an old Buick. All of the following are from the early '50s. I have a 6" 922 that I got for $50 but it's so ugly I never thought about photos. It has not one spec of bluing left but, still, it works as well...

Check out a Star MOD 30. They're great guns and they weigh a ton. The recoil is very slight.

If you like C&R stuff, especially long guns, call Allen's Gun Shop in Clarksville on Dover RD. They come up with some cool stuff. You gotta see what's hanging on the walls there.

AMR Arms in Clarksville, TN, has Chinese Milsurp fiberglass stocks, if you want to go that way. They're pretty cheap, too.

I've ordered from them many times and they were great with me.

Investigate the Norincos, in particular, the short ones (Cowboy Companion or Paratrooper models.) They're going for about $350 or so on Gunbroker now but they are the coolest. I had a Yugo, bought a regular Norinco which made the Yugo feel like a telephone pole in comparison so I sold the Yugo...

There are a lot of 9X18 guns out there already and probably a lot more that will surface. I suspect that people will still want to shoot them when the supply of guns does eventually dry up and they're going to be buying ammo. Presently, you can buy new ammo for .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .38 S&W...

For plinking, I recommend a Model 18. It's a sweet, sweet gun. You already have some S&Ws; with an 18, you can practice on the same platform for pennies.

I really like Aguila .22LR. Their Supermaximums, in my own crude 2X4 penetration tests, went deeper than Velocitors shot from the same handguns at the same distances. My only gripe is that my TP 22 won't feed them. Sigh....

A complete one for $600.... My FFL has a complete weapon for $600 right now. It's got a 16" barrel and iron sights. I'm not an AR head so you'd have to ask him for particulars. He, on the other hand, is Mr. AR, whether it's for parts or complete weapons. For you tactical people, he's someone...

It looks like any other Norinco SKS that I've seen except for the muzzle end of the barrel. It appears that they altered regular ones to make 'em. The underside of the stock even has the slot cut out to accomodate the folding bayonet. Were they still making new SKSs in the late 80s? No matter...

Why not buy a Norinco SKS, a Paratrooper model if you can find one, and be done with it? The ammo is cheap, way cheaper than 5.56, and it's a great gun. If you want to expand your horizons later, you can, but, in the meantime, you'll be thrilled. The Norinco SKS, especially the Paratrooper...
